By the way Cd (drag coefficient) is a constant for a given aero shape - it doesn't vary with speed. It varies if you change the way the air flows around the car (fold the mirrors back, tape body seams, tape over the radiator opening a la NASCAR, change the rear spoiler height, add an air dam, etc.) And Cd must be multiplied by the aero cross sectional area to get the vehicle's drag - so two cars can have the same Cd, but if one is bigger (taller, wider, etc.), it will have more drag. It's the drag (aerodynamic force) that increases with speed. I think the relationship you're pointing to is that the power required to go faster varies with the CUBE of the speed increase. So, if it takes 190 rwhp (stock stang) to go 135 mph (average top speed for a stock stang), how much power will it take to go 200 in the same car? 200/135=1.48, 48% faster. 1.48 cubed = 3.24. So, it will take about 190 rwhp X 3.24 = 616 rwhp to hit 200 mph in the same vehicle. Approximately of course.

Yes Yes Yes. Michael, you knew what i was thinking of. i knew something made it a lot harder (requiring exponentially more HP) to say, double one's speed. you hit it on the head. thank you kindly for correcting me.

thanks for the linkie. they road test each car quite vigorously. ahhh, dream job!

i saw some other crazy stuff on the bahn. a lot of it is one's perspective. i was a young exchange student whom was blown away by the quality of the bahn (the actual road surface) and the etiquette (and i mean etiquette!) used. so, for young me, it was pretty cool to see.

Michael, that is awesome you got to cruise the bahn. i would love to get back and do a little 'touring' myself. OT, the driving age is 18 in Germany, (or was when i was there over a decade ago) and it can cost well over 1000 bucks to get a license). they think it is stupid that we need drink holders - they dont often drink [while driving fast]. and they had no idea what Fahrvernuegen was (it is a correctly pieced together compound noun meaning the pleasure of driving, but it is made up and they had not heard of it. LOL).

I used to use the RUF Porsches all the time while playing GT2. Awesome cars especially with the Stage 3 turbo kit and extra sticky tires!

You know Hissin, I lived overseas myself, and when you consider that almost ANYONE with a pulse can get a drivers' license in the US, it's not surprising how bad the drivers are over here. In Japan they make you jump though hoops for a car license, and while they have their share of bad drivers, I still think the level of awareness and etiquette was better. Just an observation.

Which is really odd because they don't drive any better in Japan than they do here. Etiquette is probably better but awareness? Not IMO. I do think that they have a more patience in Japan than 90% of the drivers here.

Its a beautiful thing!

You've obviously never gone fast enough . It's when the car seems barely attached to the road. A turn of the wheel that would normally move you into the other lane will just move you left or right a foot or so. Tiny little curves that you don't even notice most of the time get very interesting.

Oh Man.............Do I have stories. I don't know how you get your jollies off. I suppose it could be a beautiful thing when you have an 8 point roll cage, 6 point harness, helmet, fire extinguisher, etc. If I never experience that feeling again, It'll still be way to soon. Especially @ 120 MPH in the rain. ----No it wasn't me. It was somewhere around 7 years ago when I was a young pup, one of my OLD buddies got all wound up, started acting crazy and almost killed all of us. Didn't bother him a bit.
I think we may even have been beyond that point. We may have hydroplaned for a second then regrabbed. Not sure how that's possible but that's what it felt like.

It's the feeling you get when you're doing close to 170 on a CBR 900, and hit a tiny decline in the road.
