The buck tag is a metal tag that is attached to the core support. It has a bunch of numbers stamped on it, if you know how to decode it you can find out how your car was originally equipped. There are websites that can decode them.

LINKY-LINKY

Regular production Mustangs had one buck tag, while SSPs got two. Some Mustangs got special options that required an addition buck tag. "Road abrasion protection) was an option (popular in Canada) that usually got an extra tag.

Not to sound like a total idiot here, but are you talking about the HEATER core support, or the tag on the rear end? My rear gear tag's missing, probably ever since the first owner swapped it to 4.10's.

If you mean the option tag on the inside of the driver-side door, I've still got mine, amazingly enough.

core support=radiator support, the piece of metal in between the bumper and the rad.

Just take a Peek in there around your Drivers Side Headlight and you should see it, it will be stamped with the Date of manufacture and some other info.

The Complete 79-93 Mustang Data Decoder Book, by Jerry Heasley, 1994, Dobbs Publishing. Little red book I have used so many times, I have to hold it together. Decode whatever you want on your fox.

dog tags

i just bought an 88 lx 5.0 with absolutly no options-this car has two tags on the rad support-one say road abrasion-any help decoding would be great-this is a canadian car-on the door tag under the body codes "MLDG"- it has- "SSS"-any one know what this means? this car is so plain-it disn't even have a radio. Any help would be great.

My 88 SSP has 2 body buck tags on the core support and my 93 GT has the standard 1 on the core support. Both cars have the right behind the DS headlight assembly.

My '79 has it, but I moved it to the front of the driver's side shock tower.

I'm still not seeing it anywhere there. I think mine's been removed. There was apparently some front-end damage to it at one point in its history, because the radiator support frame has always been a little bit cockeyed, so maybe when they replaced some front-end pieces it got removed, for whatever reason. Sucks, 'cause I'd like to see if there's any additional info on there I could find out about the car's production history beyond what's on the driver's door sticker...
