i was going to post the same thing
alot of Fram oil filters (unless they've changed them) don't have anti-drainback valves so all the oil drains out of them when you turn off the car, hence the ticking on startup
since it's OEM make sure it the right one, FL-820 S
lifter, tappet or hyd lash adjuster, either term(s) is/are correct and yes, your DOHC has 32 of them and if abused, like over revving, they can weaken and cause a tapping noise. what weight oil are you using?

Exactly. It's not off-topic. I used to own a lincoln Mark 8 which also had the 4.6L DOHC in it.
WHen i ran a fram filter on it, it would cause the chain followers to rattle so badly on startup.
When i changed to an OEM filter, the noise stopped. Frams just have poor anti-drainback properties

Thank you! I just bought the car and have put 1k on it in the past week and a half. It had an oil change the day before I bought it and was just regular 10W30 and a Ford oem oil filter, FL-280S I thinkSo tomorrow I am going to change the oil, figured I would get some cheep oil and two filters, do a change and run it for a few min, then change again. Dont know if this is needed, but have heard to do it from several people to try it. So what kind and weight oil should I use for this hot Texas weather. Also what kind of filter should I get? K&N, Ford, NAPA gold? I know NOT to get a Fram.

DO NOT USE 10W30 in a DOHC Cobra motor!!! You need to use 5w30 and I would recommend a Mobil 1 filter and 5w30 synthetic. The tick is normal unfortunately in our DOHC motors. The 7 and 8 cylinders have trouble cooling and they just start doing that from the heat.
If you run 10W30 in your DOHC Cobra motor, you will regret it. Tolerences are too tight. Please refer to your owners manual.
