Hey guys i am converting from efi to carb. and one thing that i REALY do not like is the looks of cab. air cleaners. i have looked at just about all of them and don't like any.....AT ALL! So my question is do i have to use one? my car has a 3 inch cowl hood and it's not going to be a "daily" driver but will be driven a good bit and ONLY in nice weather. so what is your opinion on not using one and what are the major risks if i choose to not have one.i love the looks of my big polished 750 carb and don't want to cover it up with one of those ugly damn things.

i think like a small air filter but tall like 5" looks tough as hell i would not run a car without a filter that sounds like a stupid investment..

i really like this air cleaner and if it had a to fit it in a tight spot would use this http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product2_10001_10002_743323_-1

if i had the 3" cowl it would get the tall k&n with chrome top

lol

Of course you don't have to run a filter. It's your car, do as you like. But then again, your engine doesn't have to last 5000 miles. Your call.

For many it's every single run.

i think that drag racing wouldn't be fun when you get to that point when you see cars make a pass then go back and the whole motor gets ripped apart...no thank you lol i like going to the track hanging out with friends making some passes and usually driving my ride home....

has anyone seen anybody run that first filter i posted in the link....im curious to what it looks like on a motor anybody got any pics??

I was about to get that filter before i saw the price..

To the original poster, You can get a small diameter filter and a stub stack (lifts the air cleaner off the neck of the carb) so you can see your shiny carb.

Just get the little tringular one that edelbrock makes. You can still show off your carb if you want.

i am converting for a few reasons.......my car was 600+ hp supercharged with all the mods...... sounds great right.....WRONG..WRONG!! driveability 0. I just moved to a small town with no qaulified mechanics tune shops with dynoes etc. so i'll put it like this.......f*** vacume lines and censors. plus weight issues and efi prices. my dad and uncle are carb guys so they know how to tune and rebuild them if necesary. i'm going with high revs cuz i got the valve train to do it and 200 or so of nitrous cuz i got the bottom end to do that. thats why.......in short.

I'd go the distance for a good dyno/tuner before I put a carb on it.

sorry but i have seen both sides and if you want big power plus be able to jump in and drive it any time......carb. is the way. i'm sure there are going to be people say i know this person and that person or this car or that car. i had that big hp efi car and i wanted to take a ball bat to it 80% of the time........and it had a great tune on it and all and it was still one thing after another.1/2 the money and weight plus driveability and i'll blow your doors off! maybe i'll have to spray maybe i won't.
