do i need a new posi unit?

You need to rebuily the cluck pack in the rear end. Ive been rolling on one tire fire for some time now. Im just gonna wait till I have the money to totally build the rear. But didn't you just get you 4.30's in. Who installed the gear anyways.

I have been looking in to rebuilding my rear end also. Summit does have a bearing and seals kit for about $80. But this does not include clutch packs. Those are about $50. I believe you could just replace those, but I'm getting everything replaced except the differential itself. Gonna cost over $500 with new gears, bearings, seals, clutch pack, and labor. Oh well, I want it done right.

so do you think i should get a whole new unit (preferebly eaton) or just rebuild my broken one? the eaton one is like $350 bucks, but i am very short on cash. has anyone rebuilt there old posi unit? if so how did it hold up? will it be like new again?

My old man got my clutch packs at Ford for 40-some dollars. He rebuilt the posi and installed 3.73's in a little less than three hours. I haven't had any problems since.

ok tell me what you think about this: i can roll to almost a dead stop, pin the gas pedal and take off and have it not hit posi all the time. but from a dead stop when i revv it up an dump the clutch it hits posi fine. does this make any sense? is this normal?

You can't judge it from a roll, you could have good tires that bite, or you could have a nice tacky surface. Go from a dead stop, rev it to 5k and dump the clutch. Ask someone to stand behind you and see if both tires are spinning.

i know they were both spinning, i left a few nice double strips lol but...........on one road i did the roll an then pin the gas an leave a one legger, then i went to another road an tried the dump the cluthc version an it hit posi fine. so i dont know, is it possible to not hit posi doing it from the roll way?

cb18201..mine was doing that hit and miss deal...i rebuilt it, and the one wheel peel is gone, hits posi all the time now......I put 4 clutches in versus the stock 3 set-up...its an a/noon job by the time you tear the axles out, rebuild, re-assy...
Think i pd 48.00 for this kit...
