I agree that this piece is necessary but what about the air silencer we all have removed? It costs how much for Ford to make/install those things and everyone I know has removed it. Maybe the silencer is strictly to pass govt. emmisions hence it being worth the cost/labor?
(Sorry to jack this thread with a different topic)

the status quo doesn't want to hear the engine...car companies put a lot of time into making the engine and exhaust close to inaudible from inside the car.

I don't think it has anything to do with emissions...but I've been wrong before.

Fawcett and Therian, you're right - it was for NVH and decibel requirements.

John, Good stuff. :nice: I'd expect the lack of the air dam to be more noticed when on I-10 (or other extended super-45 mph speed situations).

Think of it this way:

Ford made over 5000 SN95's.. They're charging us $12 for one, so let's say it's costing them $2 to make one [damn child labor]; that's $10,000 just for a little piece of plastic that some people call "useless". To Ford that's $10,000 lost. I doubt Ford would say "Hey, this doesn't do anything but lets spend $10,000 just to put a piece of useless plastic here".

Follow my drift? Companies wouldn't do that if it didn't serve a purpose. It'd be a loss on their part.

So true.
I think mine went off along time ago tough

Damn I have just discovered after reading this thread that I don't have that air dam on my front bumper, no wonder my temperature was going up on the streets, but Im in Aruba always hot except today, its raining like crazy.............

Rain and Aruba don't belong in the same sentence! I can't wait until august when I'll be back down there! Its my favorite place I've ever been, thus the reason I go every year!

Stock rad, cobra bumper No air defelctor...

Car never over heats always near "N" (Stewart Stage Pump) <++ Summer 100 degrees temps

When I had ford pump, temps pretty close as above..

BTW NJ (In winter time my temp is below "N")
