But now that you mention it, I am not sure you are supposed to. It just seemed like the right thing to do, but I have never seen it in print anywhere.
I have always used some old moly/graphite assy lube that has been sitting in the garage for probably better than 10yrs. Haven't had any issues.
Maybe there is something better though?
Haven't had to replace the TO bearing or clutch in atleast 20k-25k miles.
My KC clutch kit didn't have instructions at all. Didn't see anything saying not to in the Chilton's or any online tech articles I ran across, and since it involves a moving part that slides back and forth over the shaft on a regular basis ... I gave it a mild two-finger dab of high-temp wheel bearing grease. No problems out of that part so far...
... well, aside from the fact that the tranny is STILL leaking, but that's another issue (cracked trans case, I'm assuming at this point)...
doesn't hurt to add some grease to the moving parts such as the TO bearing, input shaft and pivot ball. any moving part that is metal to metal prob ought to have some put on. don't go crazy with it, just a dab on a finger or two will do the trick.
problem is, and why some will tell you not to grease, is because if you go overboard, you're gonna sling grease all over your clutch disc, ruining it.
throwout bearings come pregreased with a white lithium type grease and really shouldn't require anything additional besides what's already on it.
I've always installed everything bone dry, and as is, however, on my most recent project, I put a very, very slight additional coating on the inner part of the throwout bearing.

I agree as I have changed MANY Mustang clutches. I use a very light coat of grease, just enough to make the metal slippery. You definatly don't want grease flipping around at 7000 RPM.
