OK.. I'm finally ready to order my 4.10 gears The shop I was going to have install them said that if the car has over 40k miles, they insist on changing the bearings. I have 36,000 miles and they said if the bearings look worn, they will need to replace them and the bearing kit is 120.00 additional. What do you guys think? Should the bearings be replaced at 36-40k miles or is this shop full if it?

might as well change them so you don't have to take the rear end apart again in the future.

I think you should show them this link and tell them they're going to have to price match if they want you to change them!

What do you guys think about this set? They were going to charge $200 for the ford gears. I can get the Motive gears with the bearings set for like $20 more.

I saw they have kits for 28 spline or 31 spline axles, Which do I have? Mine are stock

28 spline.

i would only get motive if you want a gearset that FRPP doesnt make(IE 3.90's). otherwise just get the FRPP's if youre looking into the 3.73/4.10's, as the Motives are more sensitive to a bad install than the FRPP's.

im getting 3.90's cause i cant decide between 3.73's or 4.1's, so im getting motives. nothing wrong with that, i just have to make sure i take it to a shop that knows their ****.

Always change bearings when you are doing mods, doesn't matter what part of the car, always change bearings.

Yeah, i'm sure FRPP will be better quality, i'm just thinking the FRPP set 200 + 120 for the ford bearing kit = 320. The Motive gears set with the bearings is $100 less.

it all depends on the mileage but personally i would change the bearings and races since they are already there doing the gears
