I found a good deal on an 80mm Pro-m but the guy says it was on his 96 stang, and I wanted to know if it worked for us?

I can't remember if it's a direct connect, or if it requires modification, but you can make it work. Lightning MAF's are common upgrades for those who don't have a lot of cash but need lots of flow.

I think the 96 and up have an extra prong inside the connector. Not a 100% on that though.

The 96-up cars (including the lightning) use MAF's that are calibrated (for lack of a better term) differently than our MAF's. Which means you either need to have a chip burned or a tweecer to make it work. So technically yes it will work but not with a stock computer setup. Unless you have a tweecer or are going to buy one for reasons other than using that MAF then its not really worth the trouble.
