do miles matter?

i have an 02 gt with 44455.8 miles on it. i have had the car since 29056 miles and it seems to have gotten stronger the more i drive it. yes i have modded it, but since my last mods, almost 6 months ago, it seems to have gotten stronger. i am always worried when i drive not to rev too high durring normal driving, put it in neutral while breaking, and take the way with the least ammount of stops. the way i see it is if i baby it when im not on the track or burning an import, it will last longer. of course i get on it a few times a week either on the freeway or something, but do miles really affect our engines? when will i start noticing a decrease in power? i also have my timing advanced 5 degrees, and running 89 or 91 octane depeding if im seeing a track anytime soon. thanks

ya i kno that to be true, i was on vacation a few months ago for a week and a half. the whole time i was driving an f-150. it felt so good to be back in my pony. but does anyone know when i will start feeling the affects of miles on my engine?

Putting it in neutral when you are braking doesn't save jack squat on the engine, it only makes your brakes wear out faster since you lose the engine braking.

Secondly, it's a Mustang dude. They are built to be beaten on every so often. Did you pay the kind of money you paid for it to baby it? Heck, you could buy a 4 cylinder Honda Accord wagon if all you want to do is get from point A to point B.

Drive it like you stole it, and if something breaks, then be happy you have a website you can go to for help replacing it.

I'm not a rich man, but I beat the snot out of my Mustang, because that's why I bought it, and I like repairing things that break.

I bought mine cause I got a commute that's 56 miles round trip, so it was important to have something fun to drive. I've had it for 27 months now and I still look forward to driving it to work every day!

i try to redline my car every chance i get

if i'm turning a corner and there's no one around i'll kick the ass end out and get her sideways for awhile. if i'm sitting at a light late at night and no one's looking i 'll dump the clutch at around 4k, burn thru 1st and rip her up to around 60 before i let off (speed limit is usually always 45 ). same on the highway, no one around i'll run it up to 100, maybe hit 4th and then slam on the brakes, slow down and do it again for no reason. why? well why the hell not?
i'll take corners fast (again if no ones around) and i always brake at the last second.

am i hurting my car? hell i bet my car will last longer than yours. i beat on her (not nearly as much as i'd like to) but i also take car of her

i mean damn it's a car, not a small sick child.

Oh, and on a completely invalid and unrelated point, I still beat on my wife's ZJ which has 170k on it (re-read it if you got "I beat my wife" out of that last sentence.), I still haven't felt the effects of engine wear on it, other than having to switch to 20w50.

Wow, I guess I don't drive my car as hard as I thought I did.. I get on it every now and then, but RARELY put it to the floor.. by get on it, I mean i give it 1/2-3/4 throttle til about 4300rpm.. but i LOOVVEEE going WOT

ok, well all you guys have done is make fun of me for wanting to make my car last as long as possible. i am only 18, and i bought this car MYSELF at the age of 16....i just want to kno when i am going to feel the affects of wear on my engine..... and sgarlic, i dont care about wear on my breaks, i have life time warrenty on them, not my engine. and there is no way i am ever going to believe that using the engine breaking power will not put stress on my motorcrapola
i thought you guys could at least be a little nicer to fellow stang owners

With good maintenance and repairs the car will last as long as you want. Look at all the vinatage muscle cars around. Eventually you will wear out the engine and need a rebuild but that is a long way off. Change the oil and filter every 3-5 K and get the good stuff like mobil 1. My last two performance cars had over 150k on them and they were still strong. So stop worrying and enjoy. But don't listen to the BS that the car is meant to be beaten. Moderation is the key to longevity. That does not mean you have to granny it either. Now go have fun.

You know what. I just drove my pop's brand new 2006 gt, and it was smooth but my 96 gt (basically stock) pulls much harder then his in lower rpms. Right after I drove his I jumped in mine and was like damn! My old little pony with around 102K on him kicks a**! As long as you keep up on the maintenance, it will still run gre

engine braking does not make your engine wear out faster unless you do something stupid. it puts no more stress on the engine than when your engine is under load. it extends the life of brake pads and can increase your gas mileage. the only downfall is clutch wear. proper maintainance is the key to long engine life. do that, and it will see 200,000miles or more.

um i really doubt engine braking increases mileage.....

also i treat my car pretty well too. I want mine to last and i really try to take good care of it as far as maintenence goes. But, every now and then, you just gotta floor it, its not something you can help either, you just gotta hear that motor scream!

Also do you guy think that synthetic motor oil really helps increase engine life and longevity?

I went to jail for what is now "considered street racing"

It's 2am at night, and I dont SEE anyone around and its on a 3 lane each way road.. so Im sitting at a red light and when it goes green i let her rip, get to about 30 miles and hour and a cop swoops out and pulls me.

I went to jail for 15 hours and got out the next night. My license is suspended for a year.

So yea.. definitaly make sure NO one.. I mean NOOO DAMN person anywhere..

If youre in Florida.. lol.. watch out, Spinning your tires excessivly is catagorized as street racing now.

trust me, i drive the car like it is supposed to
i live in so cal, and for anyone that lives around here, i was on the 91 freeway at 1am, and i was racing a vette. i was doing pretty good up to about 110, and then he shuts down. i was kinda celebrating and then i see the dreaded red and blue lights in my mirror....i got a ticket for exceeding 100mph. but i didnt get arrested and my cart was not towed. i fought the ticket, and the cop didnt show up. so if you guys think i dont drive my car liek im supposed to.....i went through a set of tires in less than a year, and yes i did rotate them cuz the back were getting too low.

do miles matter?
