I am looking at getting an 06 while 0/72 is going. Problem is, there are seriously no GT's with manual transmission left in the St.Louis area. I have probably caled 10 dealers and pretty much struck out. Auto's are a dime a dozen though. I have only ever had manual Mustangs before. I did drive the auto, and I must admit it is nothing like the old auto's used to be. I just don't know if I would really miss that banging gears I love so much. Do the auto's run fairly close to the manuals these days?

dont do it. dont be in such a rush. i know its a limited time offer, but just hold out a little longer and get the 5 speed. youll be kicking yourself later on when you had wished you had gotten that 5 speed.

the auto are pretty quick on the strip and i was impressed by my buddies procharged 05,downright scary fun

I got mine, with the 5speed auto, on Saturday. For me, the auto is the only choice because I don't feel like shifting during my commute and my wife needs to be able to drive it every once in a while. She simply refuses to even learn how to drive a stick.

Love the auto, it's the best auto that Ford has ever put in a car. It's quick and works well. I'm like Beavis though I do have alterior needs that push me towards an Auto (I can drive manuals quite well). That all being said I do not regret my purchase at all but if you really want a manual, wait for the manual.

It's pretty funny though, lots of manual GT's when I was shopping, Autos are harder to find around here.

I guess it really depends on what you plan on doing with your car. I actually chose to get an auto in my '05 and I'm very happy with it. If you want to race, and if you like banging the gears, wait it out. But, like Sgt Beavis says, when you're sitting in traffic every morning on the drive to work, the auto is going to look pretty good.

The new auto is much improved over what was already a good auto in the SN95 cars. I had a '96 with an auto. This new one is better. Very smooth, very positive. And, by the way the difference in at least 0-60 times is only a couple of tenths, maybe 5.1 vs 5.3. Take a look in the latest MM&FF. They got some great times with an auto.

Ford has also kept a feature I like which is the ability to start off in 2nd gear. This is great for slippery conditions. And, you can also just tap the OD button to turn it off and get yourself a little engine braking before entering a curve.

But, it depends on what you want out of your car. Either way I'm predicting that you will have to have surgery to remove the smile from your face after you take your first drive in your own Mustang. It is going to be there permanently.

I LOVE MY AUTO!!!!

I have gone up against sticks and yeah they are a little bit faster but its not like they blow your doors off.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm going to look at a Vista Blue Metallic w/Drk Charcoal int tonight. Unfortunately its not leather interior, and it seems no one in 6 states around us has that combo in leather. Just not sure about cloth interior.

The new autos are righteous, especially after a tune.

90% of my time is spent in traffic. So I am willing to lose what little you lose driving an auto for that other 10%.

the auto is the same tranny from the S-Type Jaguars. They are leaps and bounds better than the previous stangs, but I'm dedicated to my manual. I live in the DC area, so traffic is the only thing I see. I wouldnt trade it for the world.

The Auto's are running quicker stock than the manuals from everything I read. I like my auto, but wish it was a stick...

When you get olde(r) and you have arthritis and other problems, you will be glad you have an automatic. I would have to trade in a 5-speed though I would love one. I'm 53 and it's an automatic for me.

my advice is to get the car you really want, which appears to be that stickshift. the automatic in the new mustang is the best automatic ford has put in the mustang and it works great so far. shifts crisp and fast etc. BUT, if you wanna bang gears, you want that stick. the stick to me is way more fun in this car. this 3 valve 4.6 is so nice and strong and smooth, i jus find it so nice making that 1st to 2nd shift and hearing those tires chirp with ease. one thing i learned in life is never buy sometihng out of impulse cause its there. when ur paying the 20 something thousand it takes to get one of these cars i really think you should be patient and get what you want. have your dealer locate a stick somewhere. if you get the 06 model youll be getting 0 percent financing.

We bought the auto because my wife refused the stick. I wasn't happy about it, but I didn't want to give up sex for a stick. After driving it for a while and doing some manual shifting with it, I began to like it better. The I got a CAI & Tune and it's just too cool now!!! It grabs rubber on the 1-2 & 2-3 shift and the 2-3 shift at wot is at 63 mph! Even a couple of my die-hard stick driving friends said they like my auto. there's no way to shift a stick as hard & fast w/o just plain abusing it.

The only aspect I miss is being able to downshift and have it happen immediately.

No matter which trans you get, you will have the great time driving it! I love these new stangs!!!

I got my '06 automatic last weekend. So far I think it's too smooth. I have to floor it before I can really feel the shifting. I had a 2002 Mustang GT auto before with exhaust mods and that was much firmer shifting.

Yes, once I get my midpipe and axleback I'm sure it'll wake up a little. Looks like I'll be getting a CAI and tune, too, but I haven't decided which one yet. I just don't have $1500 laying around at the moment.

I have an auto and not sorry about it. As for chirping the tires....when the pavement is dry I can chirp mine anytime I want. Very quick and smooth in shifting. Good luck.

Auto shift

Have you noticed how the computer either retards the ignition or the throttle at the shift, makes an intetresting sound, trans should live longer.

I just bought an '06 GT Vista Blue/Dark Charcoal leather with the auto trans less than a week ago now. I wanted the manual trans at first. But to take advantage of the 0% APR it had to be an '06 model only. I checked 51 dealers within 100 miles of me and the only manuals I could find were either much less equipped cars OR not so applealing color combos. This is my fouth V8 Mustang. I've had a '92 LX with manual, '95 with auto, '00 with manual and now the '06 with auto. The '06 auto is far better than the '95's auto AND noticebly faster than the '00 manual. Although I have yet to REALLY get on my new one yet,(just over 300 miles on the clock now) it is no slouch. But gone are the days of revving the motor a bit just before you leave from a stand still...but overall I'm still a very pleased Mustang owner once again!!!!!!!!!

Go For The Auto

I have driven stick shift for ever it seems. The new auto actually are quite quick. Hell I bought 2, lol, so go for it. One of mine will be supercharger here soon, will let you know how it does.
