You still use the clutch and it shouldn't grind, it does PUT more stress and wear on the tranny, as you are not giving it time for the syncro's and blocker rings to work easily.

If done right the tranny will slide into gear like a regular shift...

A common misconception with power shifting is that it is either not using the clutch or there will be a huge spike in RPM. These are not true when done right.

A few keys to power shifting is...

1. Adjust the clutch to release pressure high in the throw. This will allow your foot to travel the least distance before it releases.
2. Preload the shifter. While in gear you can put pressure on the shifter in the direction of the next gear. Put as much pressure as you can without pulling it out of gear.
3. Just stab the clutch. A lot of people will press it to the floor and then release after the car is in gear. The best way is to stab the clutch and release never contacting the floor. It is made much easier by preloading the shifter...

When done right there will be no grind, just a nice clean shift, slight raise in RPM, and a slap in the back after its back in gear!

ok guys, i had to run some errands and wash the car, so i decided to go for a nice "drive". i went out on some back roads and did a couple of quick granny shifts and a couple of powershifts. definatly a difference. power is definatly to the ground quicker after a shift.

one problem i noticed. it didn't seem like i could spin the tires in second as easy. i could easily roast the tires driving along at low rpm. granted, when i first put the gears in it was still pretty cold out. but now it seems like it's a little tougher.

It depends, if you have the ET Streets on it could be because of whats on the road or whatnot that would cause more or less spin... if its on street tires should spin hard in 1st and 2nd no matter what...

Powershifting is definately better mainly because when you think about it, it's like launching the car every shift, and the higher you launch the better.

I say keep working on it, and when you feel very confident, try it at the track at the shift RPM you use. I think that alone will put you close!

i have the street tires on right now. i can tear the heck out of first and second, but second doesn't spin as easy now. these 275-60's are pretty big(28" tires, really effect gear ratio). when i first put the gears in, second gear felt like first gear. maybe i'm just hooking a little better since i readjusted the pinion angle.

i'll keep plugging away. i plan on going to cecil april 17th, but that's pretty far away. maybe i'll go friday.

Hey Axeman. Where do you live? I go to Cecil. I've never raced at Maple, but I've been there plenty of times. Is there a distinct feature on your car, that I might be able to spot you out of all the Stangs?

spinning is the enemy....LOL remember you want lower 60's...

I got some ideas but you need to bring the car out and maybe grab a part or 2....

I saw some FS cars go high 1.6's at 3500-4000 on BFG DR's

I know you car will go faster just need to push it a little more...

Yeah a lot can be learned from those guys about suspension and parts that can be used by anyone wanting to go fast.

Next time you go, get some video if at all possible, if you can get it on the computer you can send the videos over Instant Messanger. Might be easier seeing the car run.
