can anyone tell me how many mustang 2, 3door t-top cars were produced in 1977 and 1978. I am looking for the totals by year. I have one captured to buy but am being told that this car was a small build number. Is there any truth to this? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer me.

If it's a good deal, buy it anyway.

I'm curious why the number built would be an issue.

True, if its a nice car buy it! However if it makes you feel better there were around 5000 T-Top cars each year out of 100,000 or so built so yea they are fairly rare or could be considered a low number built in comparison.

I was wondering because:

If its a 'rarity' thing, IIs are rare enough anymore, and IIs with "t"s are rarer still though I'll bet proportionally more "T"s are preserved than other IIs.

If it's a parts availability thing ... You are so screwed. Factory II parts are rare to begin with. "T" parts would be even rarer.

On the brighter side, some people have started reproducing II specific parts.

I can answer that! Here's the breakdown:

1977 2+2 with T-tops = 3,092
1977 Mach 1 w/T-tops = 494
1978 2+2 with T-tops = 17,142
1978 Mach 1 w/T-tops = 2,361

Regardless of the numbers, nothing beats a II with t-tops! My King has them, but I'm constantly on the lookout for a '77 Mach 1 with t-tops, V8, 4/5 speed. No doubt I will find one in the immediate future, seeing as I've blown my car budget on paint/bodywork for the King. Great deals abound when I have no cash, but if I've got money in the bank, I can't find anything.
