ok, my frankenstang project will be using a 2.8L clutch disc and I was just wondering if anyone knew of any performance clutches for this engine?

I looked at the Centerforce and Spec brand websites and didn't come up with anything but 2.3L applications in the 1974 - 1978 range. Hmmm...

Exedy (http://www.exedyusa.com/) lists part numbers for 2.3L and 5.0L engines.

It was looking grim until I hit on Summitt Racing:

They have a bunch of listings for clutch kits with 1" shaft with 23 splines.

So...what is the project???

well, the 2.8L is a 10 spline clutch...23 spline is for the 4 cylinder...but I did find one at summit for $130ish which I'll get when I tear the engine down for a rebuild...as for what the project is, I hate to dissapoint you but the only mustang II part I'm using is the clutch...its a '66 coupe with a '93 Taurus SHO 3.2L v6 converted to RWD using an aerostar bellhousing, adapter plate, mustang II clutch, SHO pressure plate and flywheel and a 302 pilot bushing that has been turned down to fit the SHO crank...its a pain in the ass to track down this clutch disc though...finally found a stock one locally today for $25, which will do until the engine build

I completely missed the 23 spline part...I guess I was blinded by the Zoom Clutch listings that included the 2.8L (incorrectly). Which vendor at Summit DID carry a 2.8L clutch?

So which transmission ae you using, a T-5?

Looking at your sig kind of tipped me that an MII was not involved.

Have you seen the Healey sports car that got a SVO V-6 a during a rebuild project?

I think that this would be an excellant engine swap for a Mustang II also.

Good luck, and keep us informed.

I wonder if the MII 2.8L manual trans bellhousing would have been easier to use?

The T-5 bolts right up to both the 302 and 2.3L bells in the MII (after widening the opening a hair), but I haven't heard of anyone attempting the same with the 2.8L.

The only trick is that the 2.8L has a different throwout arm arrangement than the 302 and 2.3L bells.
