 Like the title says...

Who makes a high performance shifter that is not a short throw?

I bought my 02 GT with a short throw installed and hate it. (I haven't looked to see which it is). I've driven other stangs with the stock shifter and hate the mushiness, but prefer the longer throws. Does anyone make a firm, high performance shifter with a reasonably normal throw between gears?

I'm not sure who started the short throw craze in new-school hot rods, but It must have been someone who couldn't shift and hated transmission synchros.

So I would just install this bushing with a stock shifter?

Yup. The stock shifter handle is in two pieces, separated by a rubber isolator. UPR has these bushings that replace it:

I hated the natchy B&M. So i replaced it with Pro5.0. Then I hated the fact it was really short. So i got Aluminium shifter lever from UMI. Its almost look like that on TriAx. But about 1/5" longer. So its now about halfway between where it was when I had a stocker, and B&M.

Added bonus is that because shifter is little longer then that came with Pro5.0, its much smoother, and takes less effort to shift (due to loonger leverage)..

Hurst makes long handle shifters for the TR-3650 and the T-56. Its a long chrome handle with a white ball on top, the classic Hurst look.

I think it would look awesome in my Cobra...

Take a look at what brand shifter you have first. Not all short throws are the same. You might have an off-brand or a shifter with a custom shortened handle or something?

MGW makes their shifter with a longer handle. I have a red handle on my MGW, even though it's short throws, it's nothing too crazy and looks stock under the boot when i shift
