Is there an acid in the hot tank process that will completely scavange the inside of all cooling passages? I ask because if I go to the expense of pumping up my 289, I want to be sure that it has crystal clear cooling passage walls.

I'm pretty sure that hot tanking will in fact clear out the cooling passages. If it doesn't, then a good thorough steam cleaning should do the job. Best way to find out is to ask the guy that'll be doing the job.

good choice on pumping up the 289.

I think acid is used to clean water jackets. I don't think hot tanking will cut it.

Thats what I thought. I assume that most water jacket deposits are calcites, so they should react with acids. The hot tank process looks like it strips hydrocarbons only.
