yesterday my clutch just started making a loud schreeching noise every time i engaged it so i tried to get home as fast as i could without shifting too much but theres deffinitly something wrong with the clutch mechanism i think because it only makes that sound when i engage it. also the pedal doesnt push in as smoothly so what's wrong??? if it is my clutch how much would it cost to have it fixed? I know a guy that used to work for GM that just got laid off but does work out of his garage and im sure he can do it if thatrs the problem but i hope its not too expensive

If it only does it when you engage the pedal, it's most likely throw-out bearing related. Just to replace that, you have to drop or at least slide the tranny back. A good amount of work, but not bad to do in your own garage with hand tools.

If the input shaft bearing retainer is galled, the throw-out bearing won't slide smoothly when using the clutch, and the pedal will feel stiffer than normal.

Good luck!

You can get a King cobra with t/o bearing for like $200, I just did my clutch I went with RAM powergrip Hd clutch $360, Ford Racing HD T/o bearing $55, pilot bearing $20, Resurface flywheel $40 so cost me $500 with shipping parts alone. So just depends on what you get.

Yeah, a clutch job is not as hard as it seems. It's probably worth it to change the clutch while you are in there anyway. They aren't that expensive.

If your going to pull the transmission for the throwout bearing then you should replace the clutch disc, pressure plate, and I would take the flywheel in for a resurface job also. If you buy a clutch kit make sure the throwout bearing is of good quality before you use it. I ordered a basic Fidanza kit, which is the same disc as a Zoom might I add, and got a cheap looking import throwout bearing. Go buy a good name brand one at your local parts store like I ended up doing.

Isn't Fidanza all relabeled Chinese stuff? I was under the impression that Fidanza was a Chinese job to begin with. Someone told me that the pressure plate is a stock replacement that is made in China. The Bower/BCA throwout at Advance is made in Japan by NTN. It takes a day to get it though, they don't keep it in stock. The one they keep in stock is a Chinese job.
