i have underdrive pullys but just recently my battery is really starting to piss me off. If i go for 2 or 3 days without starting it, it wont start it acts like it will then nothing. Ill charge the battery and it starts right up. If i leave a door open for like 10min it kills the battery!! Somebody engraved a date on the battery its FEB 98. So i know i need a new one. Does that seem like its just the battery or could it be worse???

Since it seems to be ok as long as you drive it, I would lean towards the bad battery too.

Typically a reputable brand car auto battery lasts about five years

If that "FEB 98" is the built date I would replace it.
Wherever you get a new battery ask the sales person to check your charging system to make sure its in proper working order (ie. alternator output, battery cables and clamps etc).

I bought an AutoZone Duralast battery back in early 2001 and it's still in great shape.

sometimes a tell tale on the battery is that when you charge it, it will never get down to where it is sucking under 2 amps or so. a good battery will down further.
you could try checking the specific gravity, but it is old and it's a matter of time till it goes altogether. i would get a new one.
you guys are lucky. in the desert, even when electrolytes are maintained, etc, a battery only lasts a couple years max. the heat kills them.
good luck.

Take it to Sears or somewhere like that. They can do a load test on it or you can check the specific gravity. Like everybody else here says at 6 years and counting it's probably on the way out.

When you get a new battery don't buy a cheap one or an overly expensive one (like an Optima, waste of money). Sears Diehard batteries are just fine and will last for years on end.

I had a problem like that, I replaced my battery with the big yellow one out of my bronco and then a little while later the alternator passed on so I guess you never know, I'd replace the battery and go from there.
