Does the gt-40 tubular have egr?

need to look at the heads!! SOME GT40s do NOT have the air hole in the heads... some do!! look at the heads befor you buy... or they can be drilled at a shop, just cost more... cool??

It depends on what the lower intake came off of. If it came off of a Cobra or an early Explorer/Mountaineer (96/early 97) it should have the internal egr passages (round hole in the very center of the upper/lower interface). If it came off of a GT40P headed Exp/Mount. then the lower won't have the egr passage.

You'll also find variations with regard to whether there's a drilled/tapped hole or an undrilled boss or nothing at all in the #5 runner for the ACT sensor; and whether or not it's drilled/tapped for the EGR coolant return line.

can't a machine shop just machine the intake as well? Why not just run the take without the egr passages?

BTW guys, there is only one GT-40 intake. The rest are just wanna-be's.

according to some sources the lowers on some of the later model (98-2001)"P" headed lowers are actually cast a little different and actually flow a bit more....but dont take my word for it.......do some diggin!

Yes they do. It does appear though that Ford is all out of the GT-40 intake package. Neither Summit or Jegs has any. I wonder if they'll attempt to build them in China too?

Chan - tmoss can tell you for sure -- but I don't think there's any difference in the castings from a flow perspective over the years. Of course you'll have small variations from intake to intake. Perhaps what you've heard is more directly related to the P head itself -- a definite improvement over the GT40 iron which it superseded.

that could be true. A (buddy) racer who has had serveral lower's flowed (explorer, Gt-40, and cobra lowers) on a superflow flow bench......told me that the lower for the "P" headed engines on explorer's did have some runner changes in later 90's explorer intakes to better match the P cylinder head runners. Now I don't believe he would just say something if it wasn't true....We were in a discussion of which intake upper and lowers were better out of the cobra, explorer, and GT-40. which also led into the conversation about the lowers as well. He seemed to think the GT-40 upper didnt flow slightly as much as the Cobra but that the GT-40 upper with its tubular upper runners had a better cooling advantage over the very sold build (and capable of holding in heat more) which could be to more of an advantage than the slight difference in flow. The explorer upper intake came in third.....but only slightly behind the GT-40.

now on the lowers, they are all pretty much the same but the later explorer lowers are claimed to flow a slight more, which could very possibly be because of newer dies for casting, but which could also be from a slight refined two front runner section such as my buddy suggested.

As for the intakes being cast in China, they are now unfortunetly......in fact there was a post on here about a guy with a china cast upper and lower un-polished cobra aftermarket intake from FRPP. now that part sucks....Made is USA just isnt what is use to be!

Yes, the tubular GT-40 does have the EGR hookup.

I was referring to the GT-40 intake package. The GT-40 upper isn't cast anywhere as you know.

Although I don't have one and there isn't one in my plans I beleive the GT-40 intake to easily be the best looking of the three. When you pop the hood and look at all of those tubes it just has a look of exoticism (is that a word?) that the cast manifolds will never have.
