i've noticed (lately) after drying for a while sometimes..i hear this mid pitched annoying whine and it sounds like its coming from my trunk..or from the rear of the car...is this normal? does yours do the same thing? or do i have a problem?..i can really hear it with windows up, ac off, radio off..really bad..what the hell is it or is wrong with my car?

If you hear it at idle, I agree with damacman that it probably is the fuel pump. Some develop a noise over time and can operate for years like that. Others develop the noise and let you know it's on the way out. Either way, it is a noise I am very familiar with, having owned many fords and can drive you nuts - replacement is pretty inexpensive though.

sometimes when i stop and start when i start to roll through the gears my car whines. it sounds like i have a supercharger. my best friend (who is a mechanic) gets a kick out of it. he said its normal though alot of cars do it. not just stangs.

i think have the same thing. i read a while ago that it had something to do with coolant going through a certain passage in the engine.

I have the same issue with my 01 cobra.... after driving for awhile there is a low pitch howl at cruising speed. It isn't really loud. However, when you let off the gas it goes away... if you give it some gas it goes away... It is only when you are cruising and at a constant RPM... mostly between 2000 & 2500 RPM.

Could this be a fuel pump problem?

Thanks,
