Ok ok ill say it myself... :OT: but i always come here for help... i got a 13 year old Cocker/Golden Retriever/ Border Collie Mix ( I think)... and my girlfriend has a 1 yr old Chihuahua... my dogs been living with my mom for the past year because there wasnt room for him at the apartment i was at... well now im moving into a new apartment and i get him back... problem is.. hes never been good with other dogs... he just want to be left alone... but she (the chihuahua) wants to play... so hes perfectly fine with her until she tries to play with him then he backs himself into a corner and then gets pissed and starts snapping... hes about the size of a cocker spaniel.... anybody in here no a good way to solve this problem???

Id keep the 13yo at your mom, not trying to be mean but he dosent really have much time left, mine as well let him enjoy the little bit of time he has left in peace.

well then hell, put them together, my dogs hated each other at first, but they were best friends years later just before the little one passed away. It wont take long for them to become friends, if they realise they have to live together, the cocker will learn to deal with him, that or the little guy will realise not to mess with him. Itll take a little bit, but they should be fine.

Well we all know that a dog of that size should be able to deal with that little turd dog. The question is, are you gonna be able to handle the chaotic noise that you will always hear from them?

You gotta use a leash to train him not to be weird about it. Watch the dog whisperer and youll see.

oh i know he will rip her apart... thats the problem... i just wanna know any tips for making them get along better... i would think if i let them be and after a few times of lettin at her... she would know not to play with him... but its not worth risking a $375 dog i bought my gf for her birthday

I really dont think that dog is gonna kill it on the first shot. Like you say, she will find out soon enough not to mess with him.

Yea i guess my only concern is what if... When i lived in a housel... our neighbors dog used to be able to get into our yard and they used to run around and play perfectly fine... so maybe the would be ok if i just let them be... but i just really dont want to see him tear her apart

Im a dog guy too. I read all the books pretty much thats why im telling you what to do. You have to assert dominance over your old dog and the new dog. Once you can walk them together fine all will be well.

ok well for those that don't know, a big dog will NEVER "attack" a small dog. I have a lab and a terrier and they are best friends. My old dog, a 100 lb boxer/something HUGE mix never attacked my sis' yorkie, but would hate all other dogs. Most likely the chihuahua will be afriad of the cocker for awhile.
