do the new holes go 1 inch lower and toward the front of the car? Running along the angle of the shock tower?

Thanks guys

I got it now, John at Opentracker sent me a template that is correct, it just seemed odd that the new angle of the hole is offset on the shocktower now.

John just explained it to me though, the offset helps the steering geometry.

I just ****ed up my shock tower. The template was wrong and made the holes to wide.

Any ideas?

I almost screwed mine up, too. Make sure your template will go over the studs on the control arm to make sure dimension is right. I had zeroxed mine out of the Branda catalog, didn't realize that the copier would scale it slightly. Glad I caught it before I drilled. I think the only thing that can be done is to weld up the old holes fully, grind them smooth on both sides, then redrill. Personally, I would take it as a sign to go to an RRS type suspension.

Got my template and 17/32nds drill bit from dazecars. Worked great. This is one measurement that you definitely want to double and triple check before going forward.

Just make sure you get the correct template for the correct year car

holes go down and to the rear on the 65-66 only.

67-68 go straight down only (different template)

not sure on the 69-70

Very nice article. I like the photo showing the new holes. My car is a 70 model. Did you use your roller spring perch in that swap and how much are your roller perches?

Seems like I read that the '69-'70's use the same template as the '67-'68's

Check out opentracker's site if you're considering buying some. I have some, but have not yet installed them as I'm collecting parts for front susp. rebuild. Very good quality and workmanship.

Yea I went the roller perches

and roller idler arm too. I`ve got manual steering just trying to make it a little easier, probably fixing to order the adj strut rods too. I got all my stuff from Opentracker, he`s good and wont sell ya anything ya dont need.

Yesterday I finished por-15 treatment in my shocktowers, got my control arms in, disc brakes on and plummed (master cyl, prop valve), one coil, and one shock. Putting stuff back together sure is more fun then gutting and detailing stuff.

I think Opentracker rollers were $199.

Does anybody know if the drop also applies to the 71-73 Stangs?

The Shelby drop was invented by Carroll Shelby to improve the handling on his GT 350 and was never intended to be used on a 67 and up. That's why there is confusion about where to drill the holes on the 67 and up.

He didn't invent it.
His use of the mod just popularized it.
Folks use it on all sorts of shock tower type Fords from Falcons to Fairlanes and even Mavericks.
