OK, so I've owned imports previously... a 2003 Jetta 1.8T mostly stock and currently a 400whp 2006 Mitsubishi Evo.

I'm keeping the Evo, as it absolutely rocks as an all around daily driver as well as track car... but muscle fever seems to be kicking in.

I've got 2 friends with LS1 Z28 Camaros that just rip... they run 12.1 quarter miles with basic bolt ons... absolutely nuts. My Evo is already capable of 11.x, but it's not muscle, lol.

I'm looking to give them a run for their money on the domestic side with a Kenne Bell blown 4.6L.

I've been searching StangNet and trying to do my research as far as what's needed/recommended. So far, this is all I really have written down:

Nitto NT-01 255/40/R17 DOT Competition Radial Tires
Spec Stage 2 Street Clutch Kit
Bassani X-Pipe & Cat-Back Exhaust
Denso T20EPR-U One Step Colder Spark Plugs
Kenne Bell 2.1L Twin Screw Intercooler Supercharger Kit @ 11psi
Kenne Bell BOOST-A-SPARK
Kenne Bell Cool Air Kit, 90mm MAF

So I have a few questions...

1) Those NT-01's should fit stock rims, right? Any feedback on these at the street/strip?

2) Spec Stage 2 lists torque cap. of 530 lb-ft at the flywheel. Any feedback on this clutch?

3) Does anyone run the 2.1L KB @ 11psi on pump gas? I only use Shell 93 on my Evo and I am able to run 26-27psi whereas other pump gas I can only run 23-24... I think the Shell 93 is a very strong and reliable pump gas so I'm hoping to run 11psi.

4) What else am I gonna need in terms of safety/reliability/supporting mods?

My ultimate goal for this would be ~550bp, 400whp on a Dyno Dynamics Dyno and somewhere in the 11's for quarter mile. Any feedback, suggestions, comments, are welcome. Thanks in advance!

1) yes, it will fit on the stock rim. you may eventually want a wider rear rim.

2) you may want to go spec 3 since you will be close to the 530lb/ft rating.

3) you could run 91 if you really needed. it's all in the tune. but yes, you can run it on 93 an make good power. the intercooler helps alot.

4) all depends on how wild you want to go. the stock shortblock will handle about 400rwhp while being fairly reliable as long as the tune is good. but exceed that number and you are rolling the dice. you will be well over 400rwhp with the setup you are looking at if you get the car tuned to it's potential. get a forged shortblock, add headers, and change the pulley and you'll make 500+rwhp. how far do you want to go?

Damn, really? I guess I'm spoiled from the Mitsubishi world where the stock 4G63 block can make 500whp

I don't even own the car yet, so if I find one, I could always have the engine rebuilt w/ forged internals.

I didn't think KB recommended headers or underdrive pulley... they strongly recommend leave those stock.

I don't need to make more than 450whp or run faster than 11.5 at the track. Not looking to set any records. Thanks!

the GT's don't come from the factory with forged internals like 99% of all cars. from a production standpoint, there is no need to. the engine block itself however, can handle as much power as you can throw at it. the 03 Cobra does come with forged internals because it's a factory forced induction car.

by pulley, i mean supercharger pulley to get more boost. i don't see why KB would be against headers. if you want the best, go to www.modularpowerhouse.com and talk to Tim Barth aka Cobra Killer about his KB kits.

OK, cool. So would something like this be acceptable if I was to rebuild myself? Adding another $4G for a shortblock kind of turns me off about the project.

It would be cheaper to build a fox from scratch with a 408 and nitrous and you would definitely have muscle car status.

Ahh, I found this on Evo forums: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJiGGLF44TM

I guess my Evo will be very similar to the Mustang if I build it! That's the same turbo I've got.... $1000 turbo, plus $600 exhaust, $250 injectors, $100 fuel pump, $50 filter, and a free custom tune using free software... so hard to beat the value!

only if you know how to properly balance and assemble a shortblock.

yeah, factory forced induction cars are typically cheaper to mod because all of the expensive stuff is already done from the factory. IE: forged internals. so you basically just pay for those mods when you buy the car. imagine how expensive it would be to modify a Lancer to an EVO.

as far as that video, something isn't right. the blower is too quiet and it sounds like the driver is short shifting. plus that's a Cobra. not a GT. a Cobra can easily make 600rwhp with a KB blower and exhaust.

I've got another question...

Can I drop a 96 Cobra engine/tranny into an 00-04 GT without too much trouble? Can I do it to a 00-04 V6 even ??? Is that a bad idea?

Thanks!

yes, and yes but it's not worth the trouble.

you can drop the 96 Cobra engine into a 99-04 GT, but unless you are going to turbo or supercharge the Cobra engine, the performance difference between a 99-04 GT and a 96 Cobra isn't big enough to warrant the switch. the 96 Cobra heads are amazing for boost. people have made 1000rwhp with the stock heads and cams if i remember correctly. but like the GT, you'll need to get forged rods and pistons after probably 450rwhp or so.

the V6 Mustang has a 7.5" rear axle which you would want to swap to an 8.8" if you dropped a V8 in it. plus the brakes are smaller and i believe you need a new crossmember.

Thanks, you've been a big help.

I guess I'll stick to my plans for building off a stock 00-04 GT. I think I'll tone it down a bit to 9psi instead of 11, and save some money on the BOOST-A-SPARK, as well as holding off on forged rotating assembly or shortblock unless I blow something.

Again, I don't have big goals for this, it's a 2nd project car and 400whp is plenty for me.

Thanks again!

you don't really need the boost a spark until after 500rwhp anyway.
