 having trouble picking out a k-member. need advice on which one to get. leaning towards the UPR or the QA1 k-member kit. Also which struts do you guys and gals use for the front with coil-overs. i want to keep it a street/strip set up. oh yeah i need spring rate also. let me know what you got so i can decide what works for me. thanks:)

It was near $560 then $120 for bumpsteer and $100 for steering shaft. I already had the coilovers.
For the kit its like $740. I see nothing wrong with the UPR its much better than the D&D I had and will save you a few $$$ over the team Z.

Shopping for one as well. I want to keep my Eibach springs and KYB struts though but want to get tubular a-arms as well. I like the sound of the Maximum Motorsports one but options seem minimal. I got the ok to "finish" my GT so this is one thing I wanted to add to my list. Might have to dig through my old 5.0 magazines. I know there was a big article on all the ones out at the time.

All of our K-members are American made from chrome-moly tubing sourced form the same supplier that provides a lot of the Top-Fuel teams with stock for their cages.

Since we're a supplier for both our own and Qa1's k-member we can provide you with decent comparison info as well as provide any details that you may be curious about.

Can you provide info about your car and its use (frequency at the strip, daily driver, etc) for selecting your spring rate?

hey UPRmike are you the spokes person for UPR? if so i am very interested in the whole front end kit you guys offer. i drive the car on the street ever once in a while. more of a show car than anything, but i want to go to the track alot next year, thats why i have another post about a 351 block i should buy. time to step up in the handling and horsepower department. don't want a dedicated drag car, but don't want the harsh bumpy ride either. something in middle would be nice. let me know. thanks

Yep, I'm the Intarweb Liason :). For the best all around performance, I'd suggest the Qa1 front struts that are fully adjustable and designed to be utilized in a coilover setup from the start since they built with a threaded aluminum body. They adjust on the car and have a very broad range of dampening from hard cornering (very firm) to drag performance (like a 90/10 Lakewood).

Along with them, our K-member is extremely strong and more than suited for street use, and the same goes for our A-arms. Like I touched on, both the Kmember and arms are constructed from chrome-moly right here in Florida and come with a lifetime warranty.

For a stock-ride and decent all around performance, a spring rate of 250# with a 12" length would work well. If it were me, I'd buy an extra set of 175#ers in a 14" length for weekends at the dragstrip. They're not expensive, and really easy to change on a coilover setup.

I hope that covers it for you and anyone else with a similar query, but I'm glad to answer anything else here on the forum, by phone, or email.

Great information UPR mike! I too am trying to understand my options.

One thing I'm still unclear on is how ride height fits into the equation with a coilover setup such as you've described.

i went with PA racing and it fit like a glove. i did have to buy bigger bolts but its very high quality. they litterally make it after you order it, so its not a universal boxed up one like the other guy sell. it took about three weeks after the order to get it, but man it was worth the wait.

Ride height is probably the biggest selling point of a coilover setup: it's whatever you like.

The spring seat on a coilover setup is fully adjustable, so after you pick the spring rate for your application you can set the stance of the vehicle as you see fit. This is a great advantage over a typical lowering or drag spring that fits in the stock location, because with those, wherever the car sits is where it stays. You can't adjust it with the stock configuration.

Yep, our kmember and arms keep everything in the stock location as far as wheelbase (no forward offset) goes, but we also have arms that are 1" shorter than stock (and stock length, of course) to tuck the front wheels under the fenders if you like.

I like UPR products but sorry to say they are not well liked on another site where the mention of the word gets you flamed......can't go wrong with team z or maximum from what I have read

Maximum is awesome, just make sure you dont get forward offset control arms with it or you are going to have wheel/fender clearance issues, but if you stick with standard offset you'll be just fine, and you have a car that can grip up front as well as boogie down the 1320 if you so set up the rear end to do so

I have the Granatelli. I have never drove with it on, sits in my 90 model and is getting transfered to my 88 soon. It moves the wheels forward about an inch, and you have the option of moving the engine back over an inch, or keep it in the stock location. I tried to install the rack, holes arn't quite right and takes a little fenageling, but nothing too serious.

If I were to do it again, I would go UPR or Team Z. On a DD or handling car I would go with Maximum Motorsports.

grantelli one looks to be like an exact rip off of the MM one, so if you want to have the best of both worlds so to speak price/improvement grantelli doesnt seem like a bad option
