Door Hinge removal

I got some new door hinges to fix the saggy doors on my 92 LX. I know how the new pins go in with the bushings and all that but how do you get the old ones out? The top and bottom of the pin are flared out and doesn't look like its easy to get them out. Do you have to chisel one end of the pin off and then pull the pin our or what?? Some help here would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

depends really, on two of mine i had to drill/grind them out with a dremal and the others just used a big screw driver/ chisel to punch them out.... took about a hour to do one side! not hard to do just a pain

Smack them in the middle with a chisel to break them and slide them out the top and bottom. Make sure you support the door!

The pins shouldn't be flared on both ends. Look at the new pins, they are only flared on one end. You have to punch them out from the bottom.

Easiest way is to use a Dremel. You will go through quite a few cutoff wheels, they have a tendency of shattering. Just support the door, cut the pin in half, then push the top half up and out, then the bottom down and out. Do one hinge at a time. Its not hard, just as stated above, a pain.

There are several variations on door hinge pins, including some with heads and c-clips, and the double ended type you have, etc.

Ford procedure is to cut them in the middle to remove.

A Dremel with a cutting wheel or grinder works. I have a large die grinder, so that's what I use. I must have broken 5 or more little Dremel cutting wheels on one.

You need to support the door, and a helper is very useful.

Not sure I would hit them to break them, as I have seen the body and door side hinges crack, and you might damage them.
