Door lock actuators

Door lock actuators (Quick question)

I'm thinking I need to replace my door lock actuators, but I'm not totally sure, so I need to confirm it. Neither of my door locks (power) work from the inside, or from the outside turning with a key, or pushing the lock down from inside.

Does this sound like the lock actuators?

yes it IS the acuators, but what year is the car? its not the 03' cobra is it?

yes, it is the actuators, replaced mine, works fine from both inside and out

Stuck with door lock actuators that don't work and don't want to pay the $50+ for a new one? Tried the junkyard ones and found that they last six months and freeze up?

A new actuator for less than $4. Fix one side for $17, do both sides for only $23. I don't sell parts, I don’t make any money off of the upgrade, I just tell you how to do it cheaply and easily.

ill add that i went the JR route when i needed to - and i highly recommend the retrofit. easy install and a bunch cheaper.

I went the stock route but have heard many people doing the JR route with success. If it wasn't January when I was doing it, I may have tried that.

I went the JR route too. However I had to modify it a little. Instead of using a 1/4" square piece of tube, I had to fabricate a flat metal tab. The 1/4" offset from the tube wouldn't allow the bracket to sit flush to the door sheet metal. YMMV, but that's what I had to do. Other than that it's pretty dead on.

I just remembered that I didn't need to drill a hole in the door and I didn't cut the head off the screw. So I'm not sure why he says you need to... I put the actuator in the mount (outside of the door), screwed the nut on, stuck it in the door and put the 1/4" bolt in the mount and screwed the nut on. It's a little tight getting a wrench in there but nothing impossible.

JR's design is very sound. it would outlast the car. i cut some corners (dont remember using tubing). i think success and not stories are user error and installation/fabrication related. i think i remember one guy with a bad actuator. easy fix since they are 4 bucks!
