door speakers

I have a 1991 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 convertible. I want to replace the door speakers with the same size that it originally came with.

My wife has the car today and I have a chance to get some speakers but I don't know the size.

Anybody know what size speakers are in the door?

Thanks

Larry

I have have 3.5 dash, 6.5 door, 6x8 in rear, thats what Crutchfield's site says and thats what I got.

5x7's can fit in a 6x8 hole according to my audio installer friend.

If I do it over again I would put component speakers in the doors and put the tweeters in the dash.

from what ive seen, the brand/type of door speakers you buy will determine whether you should get 5-1/4 or 6-1/2's. some brands of 6.5's are too "thick" to put in the door.

ive used pioneers, kenwoods, polks, and maybe a couple others in mine, all 6-1/2's, all fit fine.

and yes, a 6x8 will fit in the same place as a 5x7, both are ford/mazda only sizes.

I'd look at Q-Logic kick panel pods if your looking to upgrade the sound, image and music presence. Also it will allow you to move on to "seperates" and you can further adjust the sound. Also add at least a single 8" sub. As mentioned, sound deadening is a great improvement. Against all hot rodders common sense, I added about 50 pounds of Elemental Designs "e-dead" (dynamat like, but cheaper) material. That's why i went to a 347 instead of a 306!
