Both of my doors won't stay open due to the little spring things missing on the driver's side and the one on the passenger side I just found in the fender today. The passenger side spring is too worn out and won't keep the door open. I bought some new springs from California Mustang, but they seem almost twice as long and no way will they fit that cam bracket on the door hinge, so will have to cut it shorter I guess.

Anyone have any helpful hints on the installation before I really make a fool out of myself. One customer at Cal Mustang said to be careful as they shoot look rockets!

I had one missing a while back - ordered one from one of the catalogs.

Had a bitch of a time getting it in, but I finally did. It is the right length. You just have to muscle it in. Think I used a combination of a screwdriver and a needlenose vice grip. Scratched up the inside of my door doing it.

I'm sure there is a better way. Maybe clamp it down in a vice and wrap some wire around it to hold it under pressure and fit it in and then snip the wire????

I don't know, just be sure to wear safety glasses. Or bring it to a body shop. That would be cheaper than losing an eye.

The old one is about 1 1/4" long. The new on is 2 1/4" long. Even if I could compress the new spring, it would still be too long to fit in that space. I've had other issues with repro parts that had to be "massaged" to fit. Thanks for the advice.

I seem to recall thinking the same thing when I got mine. Pretty sure mine was the same length when I got it. The spring seems to curve when it is in the door. Mine still doesn't hold the door open even though I got that sucker in. I think the cam or whatever they call the hunk of metal that has scallops in it is also in need of replacement. Doesn't bother me enough to tackle that though.
