door won't open from the inside, how to adjust??

Hey all,
My new door handle came in, I was so excited to open the car from the inside. Installed it and it pulls on the long rod, but not enough to open the door. The outer door handle works just fine.
How do I go about adjusting this? I don't want to just start yanking on it. I think when we got the car we could yank and open it, but now I don't remember. Dang, I was so excited to get the doors put together and go cruising. Its no fun having to put the window down and reach out every time!

Can you pull on the rod and unlatch the door?

if you pull on the inside rod, the door won't open. The outside door handle does work though. That is why I was surprised the new door opener wouldn't work.

You my have to pull the latch mechanism and see what is bent or broken unless you can get in there with a light an see it

I'll check it out more closely, but it all seems attached.

I have a shop manual that shows a picture of a retainer clip inside the door. I was able to find it and attach the actuator rod. It gave it the tension that it needed! Yay, I'm not rolling the window down to open the door!!
