Drag Radial Advice?

If you do a burnout using the brakes, but don't have a line lock, then you are burning up your rear brakes every burnout you do. It can be done, but it isn't something you would want to do to your car more than a couple times.

A line lock setup will run you a couple hundred dollars. It really isn't that expensive at all.

a couple hundred dollars just to do a burnout? Thats expensive when your saving for a kenne bell .

couldn't you just get it to spin enough in first gear to smoke em good and let it be never hitting the brakes at all?

Not with slicks. You don't even really need to do a burnout on street tires. DRs like them, but you have to really heat them up which takes a long burnout. I have never been able to do a successful burnout without either line locks or using the brakes.

Fer cryin out loud, do your burnout in 2nd gear!

Personally I do not use the brakes at all so I'm probably not heating them up enough, but it IS enough to make a difference. I'm afraid if I got them REALLY sticky I'd break my rear end.

jcknife, so what exactly do you do? Do you roll around the wet box back into it and get your rears wet and then shift to second just like the rest of these guys? When you start to burnout does your car shift sideways or anything?

I always drive straight through the water like everyone else at my track does. I have read that you should back into it but "when in Rome..."

One of the posted rules at this track is, "you back up, you pack up." So I don't want to mess with it.

I go through the water, put it in 2nd, rev to 4,000 rpm, slip foot off clutch, spin tires and yes it might go a little sideways or start to roll forward. Before it really grabs I let up and take it out of gear, shift into first and pre-stage (or stage if the other guy already is).

OK last night i went to that track w/ my 315/35/17 nittos and The first time I did a 2nd gear burn out it worked good and the car hooked prettyu good W/a 2.1 60ft. But the 2nd time after the tires were hot I could not do a 2nd gear burnout. It bogged down really quick so then i had to go to a 1st gear burnout. My best 60ft was a 2.073 I know its not the best but im new w/ these tires. Also me best et was a 9.027@77 w/ a 98gt!
