Drag Radials

Wanting a good drag radial for limited track use. I have 17" cobra r rims with goodyear eagle 275/40/17s on them. I love the look of the cobra r's and wondered if the nitto 555's or M/T ET streets in that size would give me the "hook up" I'm looking for. Anybody running this size in a drag radial?

Nitto's are much better than regular tires. And from what I gather, M/T are far better than nitto's for hooking. If your looking for ultimate hook with faster wear, I'd go M/T. If your looking to get 7-10k miles out of them and hook better you are now, then I would go Nitto's.

If you drive ALOT on the street or commute in your car, the Nittos are your best bet. They are decent in the rain, provide good handling, and last over 10K miles for most people.

If you drive a good bit on the street, but don't depend on your Mustang to commute with, BFG drag radials are a great choice. They hook better than the Nittos, but flex more and provide worse handling. They are horrible in the rain and only last about 3K miles, if you're lucky.

If you don't drive much on the street and take it to the track alot, the ET Street radials outhook the Nittos and BFGs. They handle for ****, won't go at all in the rain, and don't last very long at all. But they hook VERY well.

Thank's just the kind of info I was looking for. My stang is just a play toy for the weekends, so I wont put many miles on it. My local track is only about 20 miles away, and I will probably leave them on the car for a couple weeks at a time, but I bought another pair of cobra r's to put my eagles on, for running around on the street. I just don't want the hassle of changing to slicks every time I go to the track. I'll go with the M/T

just an FYI, my M/T's haven't made it to my next oil change...and I only have 3 track passes on them. I've flogged the s,h,i,t, out of them on the street though. They dead HOOK!

didn't make it past an oil change??? Sounds like those should be a strip only tire as far as mileage goes. I am planning on getting a set too. :sad:

I was able to get about 5k on the BFG's, on my 03 cobra that was about 100 passes and driving pretty nice on the street. I know the BFG's grab better then the Nitto's but not quite as well as the M/T's. I was able to get 1.70 60fters out of the BFG's.

5K miles is pretty good for BFGs. That's about the upper limit of what you'll get.

I've got about 2K on mine now and they look fairly worn.

And yeah, the Mickey street radials probably won't make an oil change if you change your oil every 3000 miles.

Yeah, I know what that means... you might have seen my other thread about the same time as this one "Eaton or Auburn".. I went with the Eaton Pro 31 spline with Moser axles and 3:73 gears. I know I'm going to need some U+L control arms and subframe connecters, but they may have to wait a little while..I 'm getting toward the end of a 354 build with tko 500,and I've spent QUITE a bit of money in the last month ....and still have some things to buy yet. I feel like a little kid at christmas every day when the UPS or fedex man comes Should see the new short block this week!!

My builder Is begging me to buy a new timing cover, its the only damn thin left I havn't replaced.
