Anyone ever heard of this before? I have an annoying tick coming from one of my wheels. Two different people have told me it's the Weld wheel. They said it's a two piece wheel, so it flexes, thus making the annoying tick. Is this true?

Way back when I first got my Welds, one of the front wheels (3.5") would do that when turning slowly. It would go tick, tick, tick. I was also told it was the two-piece design and to just live with it. Other friends of mine with Welds said they had the noise too sometimes.
But over the years, and from removing them and re-mounting them over and over for various reasons, they don't do it anymore.
So maybe yours will quit after a while like mine did. All I can think of was the removing/re-installing them because I didn't try anything else to stop the noise.

When I bought my car it had Draglites. [skinny fronts]. And they were a few years old. About 3 months after I bought the car, it would tick when turning a slow corner right or left... you could hear it with the windows down... tick tick tick and then straighten the car out and the noise would stop. It would always be coming from either of the front skinnies.
Traded the Draglites for a nice set of Ponys & cash, and Presto, noise gone. Traded the Ponys plus some cash for my Covos and havent looked back. No noise and I like the looks. I dont know if its normal for Drag Lites to do that, because a buddy has a brand new set that do not do it whatsoever. I think after they get installed / removed enough times... Too bad cause I like the looks of Draglites but the clikcing drove me nuts.

So there's nothing wrong with the wheel? This wheel has ticked since the day I bought it (brand new). I'll try remounting the wheel, maybe I'll get lucky. I guess Weld doesn't have issues selling 'ticking' wheels to everyone - that's crazy!
I just called Weld Racing. The guy I spoke with told me to remove the wheel and check it for stress cracks, and if it looks ok to torque it back down to 85-95 ft/lbs.

Yep, I have the same ticking with mine... I have pulled them, oiled the inserts and torqued them down and that stopped the tick for a while. It just comes back eventually. It was worse till I the official weld lugnuts for the application. That helped but didn't eliminate it.
Mine are 4-5 years old and still do it... Not sure that it will always go away after a while. It drives me crazy...

I've had mine for about 3 years and I've removed/remounted them many times for various things....springs, brakes, etc. They did it for the first year I had them, but now they don't do it at all. I think the recommended torquing is like 80 lbs, but I always tighten them to 95-100 lbs.
My Weld tick is gone, but there's always some new ticking somewhere else to drive me crazy.

I think everyone that owns an older fox body mustang has had a tick or click or squeek somewhere on their car....and it drives me absolutely crazy too. I have heard about the two piece Weld wheels ticking just because of their design...it diesnt mean anything is wrong with them. I would try what the others are saying take em off clean them really well inside and out and then lightly oil all the seems and lug nuts and then torque em down a little tighter. good luck man i know i hate the mustang "squeeks"

Try taking the center caps out.......... they are what was making the "ticking" on mine. I wrapped a small strip of duct tape around the base of the cap and put them back in, noise is gone.

Yeah, I forgot about that.... back when I first got the noise, I was up at the tire shop I always use, talking to the guys up there, and told them about the clicking noise. They said they've seen it happen and that sometimes it's the center cap. They said one trick they know of is to remove the center caps, put some rubber bands around the bases of the center caps, then re-mount the wheels. I never did try it, but it sounded like a good idea.
I had just heard more people (who are more familiar with Welds) saying it's just the two-piece design... and the noise went away eventually anyway, so I never had to mess with it.

When I had WElds I have the same problem and did as Cev...eliminted it. Center caps can be the culprit!!
