Loosen your motor mounts and raise the motor when you get it on the lift, you can use a tall "stiff leg" on the transmission to do so. Lift it enough to get the pan out. Shouldn't be too difficult and straightforward. Good luck.
Pulling the motor also ensures a better seal...especially in the "corners" of the crank dip.
I did mine by lifting my motor while the car was on a lift, and I was successful...but it was a PITA. It seeps but doesn't leak. If I ever do it again, I am going to plan on other things like replacing the oil pump, and pull the motor.
Sigh, I'm one of those poor slugs who has replaced mine with the motor still in the car - I jacked it up as high as it could go (after unbolting the motor mounts and transmission mount) then unbolted the pan and let it drop as far as it could go. Well, thank God they make one-piece oil pan gaskets that now have metal down each side! They gasket also came with these 4 little threaded plastic plugs that you install in the four larger bolt holes. You can then slide the gasket under the front pickup then the rear pickup and the fun begins! Get ready to cuss...throw tools....cuss some more...attempt to stick those stupid little threaded plastic plugs into the four, most difficult to get at holes then you get to pop the gasket up over the plugs...then the pan...cuss some more because the stoopid %@$^% plugs bend and or fall out. Finally, after a few wasted hours of time, you eventually pop the pan up over the plugs. Oh, wait...now you need to remove them! I guess what I'm trying to say is that hopefully you know someone who owns an engine hoist and just pull the bugger!!!
Good luck....oh, and when you remove the motor, replace your rear main seal too!
Search my user name on this topic. I just made this repair three weeks ago. I replied to my own thread with results and also posted the specific gasket from Summit that's a one piece and comes with the plastic holders the guy above mentions. I thought those things were awesome. They saved me a ton of aggrevation. I did mine with the motor still in the car. Did not remove the steering rack. Took 7 hours total.
