Does anyone elses GT 5spd have a lot of drive line chatter? Mine makes a lot of noise when shifting, turning while down shifting, and when you start from a dead stop. The dealer didnt really tell me much. But, they said if it gets worse to bring it in. They checked it out this morning and said everything looked ok.

Also, had pulling problem. The lock nut on the the right tie-rod was loose. So, they did an alignment and tightened the lock nut.

I wouldn't call the driveline noises that mine makes chatter per say. When you take off in first and just idle or part throttle around you can hear plenty of transmission gear noise, a whining/moan noise. Also with the clutch out in neutral the input shaft makes some noise, not excessive but louder than my last few Nissan and Toyota transmissions, not as loud as the NV box in my last Dodge 1-ton.

Clunking and clacking occurs while shifting and releasing the clutch through turns and also while granny shifting and not speed matching on the upshift, seems simply be driveline slack being taken up abruptly.

Clutch disengagement is abrupt sometimes in first which causes a clunking noise, usually when its cold and the engine hasn't settled into slow idle yet.

Mine is going back to the dealer tomorrow for an issue with the window tinting and also the right side muffler hangs lower than the left. I'm going to take them for a test drive and let them listen to make sure its OK though.

My car makes all the same driveline noises that my Dodge 1-ton made pulling three cars. Nothing out of the ordinary, louder than I expected but I chalk it up to

1: Quieter, tighter interior makes the driveline noise more noticable than last generation cars.
2: TR3650's have a rep of being noisy, clunky trannys, but so do T56's, Muncies etc.

The T56's in the 03/04 Cobras make a ton of noise. They even make a weird "whirring" noise when the clutch is released and the car is in neutral. Unless it seems performance is suffering, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

It may be gear roll-over. The MTX-75 makes the same noise (tranny in the Contours and focus).

I get some chatter in the driveline. I've noticed the way I release the clutch makes it more or less. the easier i let out the clutch the less chatter the harder the more chatter.

Yeah I have noticed a bit of tranny noise also. My son asked me about the transmission noise when we had the windows up. Im not used to it, havnt had a Ford manual transmission, I know the Nissan and the MAzda I drove didnt make that noise. I told my son the two things I have to attribute it to is: 1) little or no isulation under the shifter boot area, 2) Shifter is more directly connected to the tranny , short throw, so more tranny noise comes through to the interior. My opinion, a minor distraction but it cant keep me from loving my car , or listening to 300 Ponies making sweet music!!!

Mine makes a clatter when I am "granny shifting"- it likes to be aggressively driven, and when I run to to 3000 or so and shift right- no noise.

I actually love the transmission noise/whine being slightly audible, really neat sound.

Took mine to the dealer for the same problem.
Was told that it's normal, and to bring it back only if it gets worse.

I'm sure there isn't a problem, they probably just used less noise isolation on the shifter to give it a better feel on the GT model, and the sacrifice of that is more tranmission noise. I have some chatter too, it sounds like wheN I went from stock to tri-ax in my 03 cobra, but not quite as noisy.

if your feeling peppy...

get some dynamat and insulate the area of the shifter...

Personally, I like the CLUNK of the shift into the gear... almost ferrari-ish...
