how can i tell if a aluminum DS is damaged?
are some small scratches ok?
to the eye,it looks very straight.

how bad can it be scratched up,but still be balanced?

its not my DS,just one i was looking at.

thanks guys.

V blocks and an indicator, test rod and accurate level, best to take it to a machine shop and have it checked, other than that and your

I would at least take a couple of pieces of wood with a V cut in them to set the shaft in and turn to see if it has a hump.

As long as it doesn't have any serious damage it's probably fine. At worst it will need a rebalance and some new joints. The balance cost about $35 at a driveshaft shop. If it's a good price, it's a worthwhile gamble.
