I recently swapped out an aod for a t-5 in a 65 fastback. When I install the driveshaft I had made to fit the aod with the new tranny I have 1.375" of telescoping travel between the tailshaft and yoke. Is this enough?This dimension was taken at ride height. I'm wondering how much movement there will be with suspension travel. Any thoughs?

you should be fine.... the t5 and aod are roughly the same length, and 1.375 free play is in the ball park.

What's "ball park"?

I swapped a C4 for an AOD.

The driveshaft fit, but only has about a 1/4" slip of the yolk in the tailshaft of the AOD after it bottoms out, so I think it's going to have to be shortened a tad. How much slip should it have? What's the indication of a drive shaft too long?

Minimum of 1" is reccommended. Most of the time you can hust trim down the C-4 yoke tube 1 5/8" and the DS length itself is fine.
For the strongest yoke & requires no trimming use one from a T-5, The drive splines run the length of the yoke tube. The C-4 & AOD versions splines dont reach to the yoke tube's end, by several inches.

I just picked up my driveshaft today from a local driveshaft service place. I dropped it off yesterday and had the guy shorten it by 1" and balance it.

He cleaned it up and painted too, all for $70.

Sorry old thread bump, but is it safe to trim the yoke.

.750 to 1.00 inches of freeplay is recommend.
There is no real need to cut the yoke to shorten it but it wont hurt if you do. The first inch or so of the yoke has no splines cut in it

Easier than you think. Bottoming pulls the yoke out of the trans, lifting pushes it in. Put the car on jack stands under the rear torque boxes with the axle hanging all the way down. If you still have clearance at that point, you are good to go.
