I FINALLY have the t-56 all bolted in at 3 degrees but with it and the 9" rear end I obviously have the shorten the driveshaft. I cant remember if its 1" of free play (yoke slide)? And if anyone can direct me to a good machine shop in Jacksonville, Fl that can do the work?
I think you're right; you push the yoke in all the way, pull it out of the tailhousing one inch, then measure what the driveshaft length need to be. Since you will be shelling out to have one cut, get a few more people to confirm. I just deal with original era parts so far and only need stock lengths.
When I had my driveshaft made, I measured from the center of the output-shaft's end to the base of the U-joint seat on the differential and provided that measurement to the driveshaft shop. You're probably better off measuring your car, instead of telling them how to make the driveshaft (they should be the experts on that!).
I have my digital camera and can do that. If you have factory air you will lose that unless you go with an aftermarket unit that is not as tall. I am going to buy another era correct a/c and see if it can be cut to fit. I am please with the Darkhorse crossmember as it has allowed me to get to the 3 degrees with a direct bolt in (weld on) set up.
I cant wait to get this 347 6 speed out on cruise night...I am waiting to install the fuel injection and powerdyne supercharger because I wont the engine rings to seat in very well since it is a 347.
