Driveshaft removal

OK, I got the 4 bolts off of the rear end. Is the part or the driveshaft that connects to the rear end supposed to slide down so that I can pull it back and out of the trans? Right now the driveshaft is just sitting the way it was before I removed the bolts. I tried pulling it down but that sucker is on there tight! Any tips on how to get this thing off?

If you havnt removed it before it will be stuck. Before you take it off make sure you mark the driveshaft so you can put it on the same way it came off. Try hitting with a rubber mallet.

Im gonna be putting a new one in, so what should i be marking?

If you stick a large screwdriver inbetween he driveshaft and the rear axle and pry in back, the driveshaft will disconnect from the axles and move towards the front of the car. Then you just pull the driveshaft right out of the tranny. Takes some elbow grease but isn't too hard to do.

Wekk if you were going to put the stock DS back in you would have to mark it, but since your putting a different one in dont worry about it.

go nutts on it. I took a pry bar and pushed it toward the tranny with a little force and the bastard just popped on down

Thanks guys, I just pried the bastard off. Looks a lot nicer with the aluminum DS in there. According to my bathroom scale, Stock DS: 22lbs. Aluminum: 12lbs.
