after installing my gears I have a vibration at 90mph+ I think that it is the driveshaft. I marked the shaft before removing it from the yoke, but the markings wore off. Does anyone know the way thw driveshaft is to line up? There are no factory markings and the only thing that could be vibrating is the driveshaft. There three different ways to install this shaft. It's not like that old ones. What else could cause a vibration/rumble over 90 mph? Good gear pattern, backlash .010.

can someone look at their driveshaft and see if the holes that are drilled in the pinoin yoke are opposite of the weight that is on the driveshaft?

Sometime rotating it 90* will help. try that first.

here is the story.4.10 richmond gears, bad whine and vibration.3.73 ford gears,no whine same vibration.didnt have the vibration until the gear swaps.so,rotated the drive shaft in all five positions plus original,no better than it was in the original factory spot.took the bolts out one at a time and put a 3/8 flat washer on the them and reinstalled the bolt. not alot of change.kept doing this for each bolt but didnt move the shaft.got to the 5 th bolt hole and good gu be do,90% of the vibration was GONE!took the bolt out, added one more washer and if it got any smoother i would think it was going to fly all to pieces.i never would have believed this would work but it did.it vibrated real bad at 65 mph and now you would never know it did it.thank you joe lynch who ever you are,you are my hero.this worked for me and it is worth the time to try it.when you try the washers dont leave them on as you try the differant position until you find the smoothest spot.

so the washer goes between the bolt and drive shaft and is used like a balancing weight?

thats what it seems do.when you pull the bolt out of the first of 6 differant holes you just put the washer on the bolt and re install.see if any thing changes, take the bolt and washer out.put the bolt minus washer back in the hole and go to the next bolt and do the same.when i found the one with the smoothest setting i added another washer to see if it helped which it did.a third washer didnt change anything so i left the 2 washers on it.its alot of trial and error and time but if it works its very satisfying.may or may not work in all cases but it worked in my case.

but where is the driveshaft weight according to the holes drilled in the yoke? Teh vibration is only at a certain speed 60 mph. I took the rearend apart again last night. The backlash was off the carrier had some freeplay, so everthing is good now but the vibration. It has to be the driveshaft. See on my driveshaft there are holes drilled into the pinion yoke and on the driveshaft there is a weight welded to the shaft.

thats about where my vibration was until i did the rotating and washer.forget the original weights and holes, just rotate it like i did and see what it does.like bigcat said its just like adding more weight to the drive shaft.and my drive shaft has the welded on weight also.didnt see any holes.

I was also experiencing a 62-65 m.p.h. vibration after installing 3.73 gears in my 06 Auto. Tried the washer trick after reading this thread and am glad I did as luckily I got rid of the vibration after only the second bolt. Where would a guy be without all this help on the forums?

06 Tungsten GT, C&L, X-Cal 2, Brenspeed , 91 octane, UDPs, delete plates, Cobra Ft., Homelink mirror and 3.73 FRPP gears with washer trick.

Just the stock driveshaft for now. Premarked it before the gears and put it on the same way but had a slight vibration until I put a washer on the bolt.
