drivetrain lash & valves tapping

What is with the drivetrain lash as you are in 2-5th gear and not going very fast - when you let off the gas sometimes the whole rearend bucks and surges?? Ford told my friend who has an '03 Explorer (I know it has IRS) that this is normal, no defects?? true, with my '01 GT?

Also valves tap 'round 2-3.5k when I go WOT. I downgraded to 89 since prices went up and as my sig says I am at 14 BTDC w/ my Steeda T/A.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

I am pretty sure everyone experiences the first "issue".... it's just the way the car is. We're not driving a BMW here.

I would say that if you weren't having issues before you downgraded to 89, either go back to 91/93 or pull a little timing out...

Yep...he nailed it all on the head. buy better gas for the pinging, and buy a Honda for the drivetrain problem.
