What is the average drivetrain loss of a 2004 GT 5 speed? Like 15-18% or something like that?

15% for a 5 speed and 18-20% for an auto.

Ok, so about 39 hp from the stock # then

man...i didnt realize that 5 speeds only have 13 more hp than autos until now...and thats at the most>>>8 hp at least comparing a 15% to 18% loss

so technically an x pipe install on an auto should make it pretty much a drivers race w/ the advantage towards the more consistent shifting automatic?

well if you wanna be really technical you have to factor in weight difference then how the auto is shifting. beat autos can be dogs, but nice, tuned ones can be demons

An auto weighs about 100 lbs more than a five speed.

I think it would still be a drivers race. A good stick driver could pull that one out all day. To really equal the odds you would need a torque converter and shift kit.

I don't buy into the percentage of drivetrain loss. Think of it this way. If it takes 35hp to spin the drivetrain on a 260hp, why would it take 70hp to spin the exact same drive train on a 520hp engine?

but wouldnt a engine modded to 520 hp also be modded for less restriction through the drivetrain?
