I was just wondering what needs to be done to safely run slicks/drag radials when you're up around 400whp in a fox body mustang.. My friend has a high compression NA 347 stroker(all forged, in a 1992 GT) that should be making close to that much power(it was originally built to be a "street" car and for limited track use, but he wants to race it at the track more often) and he's afraid that he's going to tear some stuff up when he throws some drag radials/slicks on there. Anyways, it still has the stock T5 w/ a performance clutch(not sure what it has there, I'll have to look through all the receipts he has for the car to find out), and a stock rearend(it also has a 5 lug conversion so I assume it has the typical ranger/bronco axles???) besides the gearing(3.73's in it now) as far as I know. The car has ~60K original miles on it and about 5K or so on the motor since it was built and the transmission seems to be holding up well so far on street tires. The best ET's to date in the car are 12's at 116-117mph w/ horrible traction on street tires, I'm sure the stock suspension(save for the front springs, they're supposedly off a 4cyl mustang for better weight transfer, they're pretty damn weak so I believe it.... ) isn't helping any. If anyone has any drivetrain and/or suspension upgrade suggestions, please chime in(keep in mind the car is still street driven a good bit, it's not a track-only car). Thanks in advance for any info/advice.

Well for suspension, you could do the whole rear suspension.
Lower Control Arms are a must...
Also do upper control arms.
New set of shocks and springs.

Once he puts on those slicks, he's more than likely going to destroy that T-5.

Torque box reinforcements, Sub frame connectors, Rear upper and lower control arms, tremec tko, Front and rear cilovers, Drag springs, and center force clutch. Thats just my opinions.

yeah, I think he is going to destroy that tranny, especially with a high horsepower engine and a high performance clutch

What's keeping the trans alive right now is the bad traction, but once he hooks that power up, unless he shifts gently, it's going to snap. Maby not the first time maby not the tenth, but it will.
