I test drove an 07 GT today and it didnt feel very quick. Although it had 20's on it, it also had corsa exhaust, intake and a shifter. It actually felt really slow to be honest, I was wondering if the large wheels had something to do with that? How much affect can the wheel size have, especially with only a 3.55:1 gear? My dad is looking into buying a mustang and Im tying to get him to get an 03-04 cobra so I want to go test drive one of those also. How much faster should the cobra feel than my car?

Anyone else driven an 05+ GT and not been impressed?

the shelby GT-H i drove didn't feel a whole lot quicker than my car, but it ended up spanking my car

The S197's are much more refined than any Mustang ever built. That makes them feel slower. The are faster than what it feels like. My dad's doesn't feel any faster than mine (it actually feels slower), but it really is faster. At 90, it feels like you're going ~60. The MPH's also climb faster than what you would think.

must have been those 20 inch wheels then because this car was definitely lacking. Anyone here have experience with an S197 with large wheels? Maybe I will have to test drive a different car with the stock 18's. Oh Darn!:nice:

P.S. Do they always let 20 year old kids test drive cars? I didnt think they would let me take it out....although I did pull in with my car:shrug:

It depends on the wheels. Some bling bling 20's are very heavy, while some are made with weight savings in minds. It's not so much the weight though, than it is moving the majority of mass (the actual rim that holds the tire) further away from the axis of rotation. It's simple physics. The further away from the center axis, the more energy it takes to spin even if the weight is the same.

Also, the new Mustangs are very refined. The torque band is much smoother in how it comes in. It won't FEEL any faster, but it sure as hell is.

Took an '07 out about a week ago and I'll agree with the majority. The power is deceiving. First off, the car was an automatic, so the stock, smooth 5R555 shifts don't give you that feeling of throwing you back in your seat like the abrupt, sloppy shifts of the 4R70W.

Secondly, the 3V's really shine at the top end. To be honest, it didn't feel all that far off from my Cougar up top, and my Cat makes a lot more power than an S197.

This is such a true statement, i test drove an 06 Gt and i hit the rev limiter in first because it just didn't feel as if it was pulling like it should have, but because they are so smooth you don't realize just how fast you are going unless you keep your eyes glued to the speedo which no one does (when driving), at least i hope not. I can only contest to this because i was sitting passenger and watched a 0-80 run and i was pretty impressed with the 40-70 range. Also much smoother shifter than our cars which may also have something to do witht he deception

I work for a dealer and we traded an 07 with 2900 miles on it today...i drove it an as you were i was disapointed. After hearing how much faster they are than the 99-04s i felt that mine with only exhaust felt faster....although i know this not to be true...it felt big and bulky just driving it an knowing that i can have it for what we traded it for i would not give mine up.:( .....maybe im just attatched to mine.

I would rather have a mach 1 or cobra however after my statement because mach 1's are just as fast as 05gt's but "feel" faster when you drive them, more of that stick your head to the head rest kinda deal, but the 05+ are nice cars none the less, definitely a smoother ride

well as everyone says they are faster than they seem, however that just wasnt the case with this car. I honestly was waiting for the car to get up to 60, watching the speedo...waiting, waiting, waiting...I guess the moral of the story is dont put 20's on a mustang with stock gears if it only has 300hp.:notnice:
