Dual Exhaust on V6 melt fuel line ???

A local muffler shop said that when putting duals on a V6 the fuel lines are to close to the muffler piping which leads to plastic melting on the fuel line and can cause a lot more serious damage with the line being heated up...he mentioned I must get a GT fuel pump and line installed in order to do duals without any problems...anyone has any good knowledge on this topic ?

Uh-oh. Now you got me wondering.
I just bought a 2000 V6 in the fall that has dual. I'll have to check the routing versus the fuel line.

Depends on the year Mustang. My only experience is with the 94-95's, and this isn't an issue. The V6, GT and Cobra of those years have the same fuel lines, gas tank and fuel pump. I have dual exhaust on my 94 V6 and have no problems.

You mignt want to make this post on one of the GT message boards for your model year. Someone there may know. As far as the fuel pump, search parts sites for OEM pumps for the V6 and GT in your model year. If the pumps are identical, this muffler shop may be blowing smoke up your tailpipe.

Alot of people on here have duals and I've never heard any problems from them. Maybe your mechanic was making an "educated guess"?

My muffler guy said the samething, but he said that my break lines were in the way as well. I haven't even looked at it since I had the pipes installed several months ago, and I haven't had any problems.

Never heard about any problems with fuel lines, but one thing you DO have to watch out for is your brake lines!

You've got some hard brake lines running on the inside of a box beam on the underside of the unibody, and if your duals are not given enough space all around them, they can hit the brake lines when you hit a bump and crimp them closed against the frame.

....and that would be bad....

on the wifes we "created" her stainless duals and that was 3 months ago. recently shes started noticing a minor rattle, turns out one of the brake lines had "slipped" about half a inch twars the duals and was rubbing on the hot pipe...another week sheda lost it to the passengerside rear...it was melting through, but i fixt and mad nessacary repairs to the line before anything bad happened

im about to dual out my v6 2001 3.8 and cut off the cat's......... will this a problem with my brake/ gas lines?????

News to me.

Have been running dual exhaust from a GT for over 2 years, no issues, and it was never mentioned as a potential problem by the exhaust shop that did the install.

The thing you are talking about is very true. On my 2001 there is barely 2 inches of clearance between the exhaust and the fuel line coming from the fuel door in case i wanna get that dual exhaust in.
Not sure tho if it is an actual issue, taking into consideration that this is a very popular mod.
