also just becuase an oil comes out black, doesnt mean its bad. it just means that its been doing its job of cleaning out the motor of stuff that shouldnt be there (sludge). if you really feel that you need to clean up the motor, run a double AutoRX treatment.

Well I've never tried Amsoil personally. But we've put in a couple of trucks before. We always use 15w-40 Delo in psds, cummins, and duramaxs. I just wouldn't want to spend that kind of money on oil. We charge 45 bucks for a full service oil change with full syn, with Mobile 1 its like 50. So why don't you like Penzoil? I'm not a big fan of Penzoil, but I like QS and Valvoline.

Some people will go around 8000 miles on an oil change then bring it out and its way black then when we check it on the dip stick to make sure its full or if someone over fills it and we have to let a little out its still dirty looking.

pennzoil and quaker state are based off of Pennslyvania crude. whereas other oils are based off of Continental crude. Conti crude is what is found in Texas and Saudi Arabia. it is of a higher quality than pennslyvania crude. also pennslyvania crude tends to sludge up easier.

One thing you need to be aware of is that the filter matters as much or more than the oil. Use a Motorcraft FL-820S oil filter. They sell them at Wal-Mart for cheap. Personally I use Motorcraft 5W-20 synthetic blend motor oil like it says to do in the owner's manual. Since the conventional oil is so much cheaper than synthetic, I can afford to change my oil very often. I do a 3000 mile interval. Also, I always flush the crankcase by adding Seafoam to the oil about 100 miles before I change the oil.

Cardial, what oil do you use in your car? And can you feel a difference in your car with different oils?

i only use Mobil 1 5w30 with either a Motorcraft FL-820s or Purolator Pure One filter. both the filters are the same as the motorcraft is a rebadged pure one.
i bought the car with 95k miles and it only had motorcraft oil run in it. when i switched to mobil, the car ran a lot better.

Why do you only use motorcraft or Purolater oil filters? Sorry for asking you so many questions, I'm just curious is all.

fram are some of the worst filters made. the motorcraft/purolator filter is one of the best on the market, and only cost about $3.

Yeah I've heard that Frams are bad too. Especially on Diesels. I've heard of some guys losing oil pressure and can't get it back up to normal after using a Fram filter. Isn't it because of the paper inside?

In my area Mobil1 is 4.59 and I can get Amsoil for 4.85...so I'll gladly pay it. Based on the testing that I've seen Amsoil rates highest (Redline nearly as high) followed by Royal Purple and Mobil1.

Ahhh, oil threads.

Motorcraft 5w-20 in both of my 2004 modular motors. Heh, the both take the FL-820S, too.

Wal-Mart sells the oil in 5 quart containers and the oil filters as well.

I use 5-30 just because costo carries it and the money saved offesets any advange the fuel economy would give me. I can still get 25-26mpg hwy driving@65 so there is no way the 10-30 is hurting my milage much.

If you are going to spend the money on synthetic oil don't be the old fashioned guy.

I change mine at 7k just because I am too lazy to have my oil analyzed and you have to change the filter anyway. If you are going to spend the extra money on a synthetic take advantage of what it gives you. anyone who is changing synthic oil at 3k is just wasting money. if it gives them piece of mind great but there is no real logic to it. If they try to tell there is just read and educate yourslef you will see it is all bs.

the reality is the people at AMS or mobil 1 are quite a bit smarter than me or anyone else who will post in this thread. So taking too much advice from a message board is not always a great idea. synthetic oil can be run until it bad. that can be 10k, 15k, 20k, 25k+ in some instances. you just don't know until you analyze the oil. people will still try to argue even this which just baffels me. if you oil checks out good it is good. end of story.
