Although, I haven't changed a fuel filter, I have removed tranny cooler lines while replacing a radiator, and so this is the way I would do it: If you have rubber hose before and after the filter then I would clamp each end with a pair of small channel locks, C-clamps, or hemastats to seal it off temporarily until you get the new filter on.

thanks, yeah i was thinking along similar lines, it does have rubber before and after, so i will clamp it and remove it...i have another question, the filter is closed, meaning you cant see whats in it or what it has caught....how would i go about getting it open to see whats inside (mind you this is a fuel filter, so dremel or anything with sparks is out of the question) it will make big boom hahaa

I just get a rag, loosen up the clamps and change it. The rag catches the gas. Viola!
