Are the '96-'98 Cobra T45's the same as the '96-'98 GT T45's? I've heard that theConra T45's have better internals. I am about to buy a '96 Cobra T45 to replaced my FUBAR '98 GT T45.

Please don't bother telling me to get a TR3650 or some other tranny. Those are not options I can look into.

cobras i believe had a different tailshaft(?) or something...i bought a new t45 from d&d for my 96gt and i guess they were leftover t45s from cobras not manufactured in 00 so they asked if i had a gt or cobra and i said gt they had to change the tailshaft or something. and i had to use a different speedcal code because it threw off the speedo since the internals were different.

I've found out that the T45 tailshaft housing is different on 99 Cobras. I figure it's got something to do with the IRS. The '96-'98 T45, regardless of if it was put in a Cobra or GT, "should" be the same externally as far as the tranny mount is concerned.

right, that would make sense as per d&d saying it was for 00 cobras that werent built they bought the leftover transmissions..not sure on the speedo gear tho i had to put one in to work with my speedcal to get everything right, u might just wanna check into that to verify.

There's a picture of the both tailshaft housings on page 166 of the August issue of MM&FF if anybody wants to see the difference. I looked around on the MM&FF site to post a picture, but they didn't have one.
