Story here: http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/mustang_gt.asp

Of note in that story, in addition to the auxilary input jack, is DVD-based navigation system, will be available shortly after the 2007 model year launches. What are everyone's thoughts on this one!?

Do any other Ford vehicles currently offer navigation systems? Thoughts on price? I guess more important are your thoughts on right/wrongness of having this in a Mustang in the first place!

It seems we're slowly, but surely, getting more mordern: heated seats, input jack for MP3 players...now navigation systems....

Eventually almost every FoMoCo vehicle will have NAV available.

The Lincoln LS & Navigator use a very nice Denslow DVD NAV.

The Mountaineer / Explorer, Lincoln Zephyr & I think 500 / Montego have a Pioneer system that I don't like. I belive the Fusion & Milan will also have NAV available very soon. I believe the Mustang and other FoMoCo vehicles will use the Pioneer. The Denslow & Eclipse NAV systems are much nicer. If you search on NAV systems, you'll see lots of complaints about Pioneer, bad reliability, slow to respond, sometimes give inaccurate positions, voice quality poor, etc.

As far as heated seats, NAV system, etc. in a Mustang, the last time I checked a calendar it was 2006, not 1966. Many customers want these sort of convenience & luxury features (aren't power brakes, power steering, power windows, power locks, etc already standard?) What is still missing from the Mustang is automatic climate control. As long as these sorts of items are optional (not standard equipment) they should absolutely be on Mustangs.

The Ford 500 has an available navigation system. So does the Explorer and the Escape. The price is close to $2,000 or so, if I remember correctly.
You can buy a good, portable and small GPS for $500 to $700.
Ford is behind the times. I bleed Ford blue and it kills me to think that the company just hasn't got a clue as to what consumers not only want but demand today.
Yes, the Mustang should have an available navigation system. Should have had it years ago. The 2005 Mustang when it made its debut should have had an ipod connection. Enthusiasts had to beg for a hook-up. Finally in 2007 it's available.
(Did you know that some Fords no longer have coat hooks in the rear. A piece that costs a few cents is dropped in the name of profit.)
The Mustang makes you want to cruise, right? That may take us to places we have never been before and a navigation system could be useful.
Maybe Ford needs to spend some time driving other manufacturers' cars to see what they are offering.

Save your money and buy the base system... then spend the $1200 ish for a much better in-dash CD\DVD\NAV player. Cheaper than the crappy ford option (when they get it) and you get better quality.

Speaking of aftermarket, is there any systems out there that look like stock (ie. not like the stock unit in the car, but something that looks like it belongs there)? I like a clean looking interior, and having something flashing at me in 2300 different colors, protruding to the middle of the front seat, isn't for me.

The Eclipse systems are very nice. They are double DIN so they should fit right in the Mustang.

Or you can get a Verizon cell phone--mine was $69.99 a few months ago, it's now down to $39.99--and it has GPS navigation with color maps, speakerphone turn-by-turn directions, and all sorts of extra information. Ten bucks a month, or three bucks for a 24-hour use if you don't need it all the time.
