dyno tune needed with KB?

and here you go, last dyno on my GT before selling it, ORIGINAL TUNE from Ken @ KB, nothing changed!!!:

I've been using the KB tune with no pinging at all. I'm at 410hp and 422tq which isn't too shabby. And BTW, the warranty on the KB is void if you get a dyno tune.

I think clarification of 'Dyno tune' is in order.

If you have your car dyno'd, ie it is sat on a rolling road and has such things as power,torque, af, timing measured this WILL NOT void any warranty, as it is similar to driving the car and taking measurments.

If you take it to a rolling road and they adjust any of the setting (specifically any of the KB equipment/setting such as the ECU program) then this may cause a grey area.

Get some numbers on your car following KB's requirements, any problems give them a ring - EASY.

If someone else tunes your car other than KB your warranty is void. That is straight from Ken himself. Going to a dyno to measure power/timing/AF will not void anything.

I don't own a KB but here is my logic. No need to tell me to stfu because I understand the whole not owning making my opinion worthless to some.

You don't need a dyno tune period. you pay for tuning by KB. My paranoid nature would make me verify that tune though.

what you may want to cosider is buying some dyno time to verify the A/F of the car. Now if this shows a problem or power seems low contact kene bell and have them adjust the tune.

Or you could just buy a wideband 02 and do this yourself. I would do one or the other just to make sure the car is

A. safe
B. not running to rich and robbing power

Now I will STFU since I don't actually own one.

Lots of nieve comments in this post. You can use their mail order tune but "GET IT CHECKED". I don't care who does the tune. A canned tune from anyone needs to be checked. And if you get a custom tune it will not void your warranty that's rediculous. I had mine installed by a Kenne Bell dealer and they did a custom tune and I kept my warranty for the full year. My warranty is now over thou.

If you install a $4K+ blower you can afford to spend a few bucks and get it checked on a Dyno. There was also someone that posted on here that blew his car up with the Kenne Bell tune so be smart and get it checked.

It isn't that they don't want you to dyno your car, but it is difficult for them to diagnose a problem that may be due to a tune someone else has tampered with. If you have a problem after a custom tune, it should become the responsibility of the tuner.

So do they just not warrant the tune after a dyno tune are would the head unit also not not warranted after ? A bad tune shouldn't hurt the head unit.

I'm sure they would still fix any bad hardware, I think it is just the tech support that you would have trouble with.

even though i don't have a KB, i can see the logic in having a tune to make sure the a/f is right, and that everything is safe, plus also maybe to get some true HP/TQ #'s.

Aside from that though, how much power will you typically pick up in a custom dyno tune vs. the provided KB chip? Is the extra power you gain worth the extra $ you pay for all those pulls, etc.?

i dont think you will necessarily pick up a lot of power, i think that you should get the tune done just to make sure everything is correct. especially if youve spent a bunch of money on a forged bottom end.

If you just get a dyno reading and not a tune, if there is a problem, tell KB, and they will correct the tune, and you will still have a waranty.

Steps to owning a Kenne Bell
By Dan_Soprano

1. Call KB and buy kit.
2. Recieve kit from FEDEX
3. Call some friends
4. Buy LOTS of BEER!!
5. Carefully install kit
6. Call local dyno and setup time.
7. Once on dyno, make pull to check HP/TQ, and A/F.
8. If above step is good, get ready!
9. On drive home from dyno, GIVE ER' HELL!!!!!!!
10. Once home, change soiled underwear.
11. Call good tire place and setup line of credit-YOU WILL NEED IT!
