E-brake for Decoration?

Mine won't let the car move at all and nothing has been done to my rear brakes EVER. I had them checked out once due to a wierd creaking sound when I back up, but nothing was replaced.

Most of the time, I can put the car in D or in reverse and let the car back up or roll forward on it's own-unless I'm on a fairly extreme incline. The other day, I popped it in reverse and it wouldn't move when I let off the brake pedal. I then notived that I had forgotten to dissengage the brake.

With these parking brakes/e-brakes, you have to use them all the time or they won't work very well. When I first got my car, the light on the dash wouldn't come on until I had moved the lever up and down a few times. After a while, it started working like a charm every time.

I use the space between the seat belt and the center console for 20 oz's. Using that rinky dink flip out cup holder only makes it tough to shift.

And my e-brake will prevent me from rolling on any incline/decline I have ever come across, but I still leave it in gear just in case when I am parked on a hill. I can def tell if I try to drive without disengaging it. Plus there that HUGE warning light that says BRAKE!!!.

btw, just thought I'd add this too... by law, every vehicle after some year in the 60s I believe, had to have an alternate method to stoping gradually... rather than slamming it in gear, or putting a coat out the window, or using your foot

-so, by law, the ebrake should do something... just something to think about

S**T - does virginia inspections check the e-brake? Cause oops - it's been broken for 2 months (cable snapped) and I don't feel like going into Ford and getting it done yet. Anyways, I noticed a slight difference when driving with it - but nothing extraordinary - it kind of sucks that it doesn't budge the car. And yes, it works as a great cupholder - while we're on the subject - does anyone have the 2 cupholder mod that you throw in the place of the lighter (the one that molds over it, not sticks up and out of it) and if so - where did you get it? I can't find a good one!

I don't think I have ever used my e-brake. Well other than a cup holder. I am glad to see I am not the only one who does that.

humm mine works i pull it up a bit but it dose work...and i usealy put it up a click to raise or lower the top while driving....like in parking lots or at a stop light...yeah sure its not good but saves me time becuase my top takes for ever to go up now adays

I put my cups between the seatbelt and the back support on the seat. The seatbelt stops it from going foward and the seat stops it from going backwards. It's really nice!

I usually try to buy the 44oz drinks that have the tapered cup bottom so it will fit in the "real" cup holder.

Most people don't realize that they can yank on their e-brake much further than they think.

When I am lowering my top, I usually just pull it one click up, and keep driving while I lower the top. Soo lazy!!

Are you serious? Of course it's suppose to be tight and lock up your tires if you pull it all the way. What good is gradually stopping in an EMERGENCY???

All the way is lock up... part way is your gradual slow down. It's just like a gas pedal or clutch.... it's not just an on and off switch.

You should play in cars more..... I'm not just talking about our mustangs... they are all this way. Trust me on that one.

Count me down for that catergory. someone in the beginning of the thread suggested putting it in neutral on a slight incline and seeing what happens since all the other times i have been in drive. i did this at a stop light and was freaking out because the car still did not slow down at all. next stop light i yanked using all my 17 year old girl strength and the car stopped better. so i guess thats the answer to my question, but i've never driven a car that i had to pull it all the way up to make it stop, but now i know...i'm SO glad i didn't break anything lol. thanks for all the input.

And i would also like info on that two cupholder thing. i've never heard of it but i don't need the lighter so if there's one that uses that and doesn't look bad i would love to know where to find one

Best to test the e-brake in an empty parking lot, and not in traffic. The way most work is they mechanically pull a wire that tightens the brake. If one is slightly tighter than the other it will pull that wheels brake harder and can cause a spin or a turn (depending on how hard you pull it).

My dad taught me to always "play" safely in your vehicles to learn everything you can about them. Safely means not too hard on them and always in a vacant lot somewhere. EVERY year the first time the roads get icy here I still find an empty lot to "play" in and see how my vehicle reacts. I do this because every year my vehicles change... either more mods or different tires, etc.

I truely believe this is one good reason I've yet to have an accident or slide off in the ditch during an ice storm. I've been very lucky and have practiced as much as I can for the what if situations. Experience is key.

Now for all the people asing about cupholders... do a search, it's on here quite a bit. Seems we have two topics going at once here.

i would just swap in a newer centerconsol for the cupholders....they do make one thats goes in where the ash tray is but they look bulky and in the way so i never bothered....right now i dont even have a center consol it's in my trunk...and when i put the new capet in i think i am going to keep it this way....i still have the e breake for holding my drinks
